West Bengal:  Calcutta HC denies permission to Amit Shah’s rally


The Calcutta High Court on Thursday denied permission to Bharatiya Janta Party to hold a rath-yatra led by party chief Amit Shah. The BJP had moved the high court on Wednesday after the Mamta Banerjee led West Bengal govt’s administration and the police were not responding to its applications seeking permission to take out three rallies in West Bengal from December 7. Attorney General Kishore Dutta informed the Calcutta High Court that the permission was denied on grounds of that it can cause communal tension in the state. The high court ordered that the rath yatra cannot take place till the next date of hearing, January 9, when it would consider reports from the 24 districts through which the rally was to pass.

Madhuri Dixit to fight 2019 elections from BJP ticket: reports 

The BJP is planning to field Bollywood superstar Madhuri Dixit Nene in the upcoming 2019 general elections from Maharashtra’s Pune Lok Sabha constituency, news reports said on Thursday. BJP president Amit Shah had met the actress in June this year for the ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ program when he had briefed her about the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi government, and it is then Madhuri was asked to join the BJP, party sources claimed. “The party is seriously considering giving candidature to Madhuri Dixit in the 2019 general elections. We think the Pune Lok Sabha constituency will be better for her,” a senior BJP leader was quoted by news reports. Both Madhuri and the BJP have not officially confirmed the news yet.

UP MP Savitribai Phule resigns from BJP; says party trying to divide society

Dalit leader and a Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich constituency resigned from the Bhartiya Janta Party after accusing them of trying to divide the society on religious lines. Phule announced that she has resigned from the basic membership of the BJP on Thursday, the eve of the death anniversary of BR Ambedkar. Her announcement comes two days after she reprimanded UP CM Yogi Adityanath over his comment that Lord Hanuman was a Dalit. The leader claimed that Hanuman was, in fact, a slave of the‘Manuwadi’ people. Talking about her role in the party, she also claimed that she was upset because her voice was being ignored as she is a Dalit. Asserting that Dalit people do not want Mandir, Phule said they instead want the Constitution to be implemented. Clarifying her resignation from the party, Phule said she will complete her term as MP.

Terrorist Zakir Musa spotted in Punjab wearing a Sikh turban

Terrorist group al-Qaeda’s Kashmir cell leader Zakir Musa is reportedly hiding near Bathinda or Firozpur in Punjab allegedly disguised as a Sikh wearing a turban. After this report issued by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the CID and Army intelligence, the Firozabad and Bathinda regions have been put on high alert. The report comes nearly three weeks after the Amritsar grenade attack that took place in November, while the state was already on high alert after intelligence inputs regarding the terrorist's presence in the state. Zakir Musa is Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind chief and is said to be aligned with a global terror group. Army troopers, Punjab Police and other para-military have been stationed in and around important places like the Bathinda railway station and the entire state is on high alert since early Thursday.

Chinese Mobile phone maker Huawei calls out Canada, US for CFO Meng's arrest

The Chief Financial Officer of Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada on behalf of the US government on Thursday, in a big setback to the country’s business and telecom companies. Meng, who also happens to be the daughter of Huawei’s founder Ren Zhengfei is reportedly facing ‘unspecified charges’ in New York. The Chinese embassy in Ottawa, Canada reacted in rebellion demanding Meng’s immediate release and calling the arrest a ‘human rights violation.’ “The company has been provided very little information regarding the charges and is not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms. Meng,” Huawei said in an official statement. Meanwhile, the Chinese stock markets slumped amidst trade war fears over Meng’s arrest.
