SC declares ‘Right to Privacy’ as a fundamental right The nine-judge bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday declared that the ‘Right to Privacy’ is a fundamental right and upheld it along with personal liberty and freedom as enshrined in the Constitution. The court rejected the current government’s contention which had earlier said that ‘Right to Privacy’ was not a fundamental right. The verdict might also affect other landmark cases like Section 377 (Homosexuality), Section 66A (IT Act) and DNA Profiling bill 2017(DNA of an individual can be profiled without his consent). India has now joined many other countries like Canada, Australia, Europe, Brazil and US who support the Right to Privacy and have separate laws governing them.
