Tamil Nadu workers end strike ahead of Pongal
In a huge relief to the people of Tamil Nadu, the eight-day-old strike by transport employees was 'temporarily' called off by unions today ahead of the Pongal festival, which falls on January 14. The decision also came in the wake of the Madras High Court appointing an arbitrator today to settle the dispute between the government and the employees over wage revision. CITU leader A Soundarajan told reporters that the decision to 'temporarily' withdraw the stir was taken in the interest of the people of the state ahead of Pongal festival.

Chandigarh stalking case: Vikas Barala granted bail
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday granted bail
to Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala's son Vikas Barala in the case of stalking
and abduction of Varnika Kundu. Kundu's counsel opposed bail on the grounds
that the offence was of a serious nature, as he had chased her for around five
kilometres. It was also argued that given his political connections, he may try
to influence the trial of the case, if released on bail. Kundu however said
that she trusts the judiciary and will not oppose the decision as of now.
Kamala Mils Fire: All owners of '1 Above' taken in custody
Three absconding owners, Abhijeet Mangar, along with brothers Kripesh and Jigar Sanghvi of the infamous ‘1 above restaurant’ of the Mumbai’s Kamala fire, were apprehended on Thursday by the city police. While Mangar was arrested from Marine Lines, the Sanghvi brothers were cornered in Andheri. "Our teams are in search of Yug Tulli, owner of Mojo's Bistro pub, who is also on the run," another police official said.

PDP MLA calls Kashmiri militants are 'martyrs'
An MLA of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of Jammu and Kashmir claimed that the militants who are killed in cross fires by the Indian army are ‘martyrs.’ “Those who hail from Kashmir are martyrs irrespective of the fact under what circumstances they get killed,” said Ahmad Mir from Wachi constituency that is the hot bed of militancy. Reacting to the statement, ally BJP has called accused it of ‘glorifying terrorists.’

US Travel Advisory ranks India at Level 2 of caution
The USA government on Thursday issued the latest travel advisory that featured India in a ‘Level 2’ category, asking travelers to take ‘extra caution.’ The travel advisory stated dangers of ‘crimes and terrorism’ posed for the Americans in India not to travel to Jammu and Kashmir, except for Leh and Ladakh region. The State Departement also asked the citizens not to venture within 10 miles of India-Pakistan borders due to danger of ‘armed conflict.’

Protests spark in Pakistan after 7 year old's rape and murder

Creator of Marvel comics accused of sexual harassment
Allegations have surfaced against founder of Marvel comics Stan lee of sexually harassing his nurses who took care of him in his Hollywood home. According to media reports, Lee had spoken inappropriately to the caretaker and had groped them on several occasions. In a statement issued by the 95-year-old comic writer’s lawyer, he has denied the allegations. “Mr Lee will not be extorted or blackmailed, and will pay no money to anyone because he has done absolutely nothing wrong,” the statement said.
