"All is not well in the SC": Judges come out against Chief Justice

In a historic, ‘first-of-its-kind’ event, four Supreme Court judges addressed the media, questioning the the functioning of the top court. Justice J Chelameswar, Justice Rajan Gogoi, Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Kurian, in the press conference said that they were disturbed over the Chief Justice of India, Dipak Mishra’s allocation of judges on some of the sensitive cases, including the death CBI judge BH Loya. "We thought we owed a responsibility to the institution, to the nation. We tried to collectively persuade the chief justice that certain things are not in order, therefore he should take remedial measures."

Divided reactions pour in for SC judges' press conference

As four sitting Supreme Court judges took the step of addressing a media conference to express their concern over the functioning of the judicial system, divided reaction in support and against them poured. While Retd HC judge RS Sodhi slammed the event as ‘childish and immature,’ SC advocate Indira Jaising complemented the judges on the historic move. On the political front, Congress hailed the judges’ announcement as ‘significant moment for democracy’ while even BJP leader Subramanian Swamy stressed for probe on the same. The Chief Justice of India, however refrained for releasing any statement on the matter.

ISRO launches 100th satellite, along with 30 others



The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) created history on Friday as it successfully launched its 100th satellite along with 30 other satellites. India launched a Cartosat-2 Series, Microsat and a nanosatellite in orbits, while the 28 other satellites were from UK, US, Fran, Finland, South Korea and Canada.The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) was launched from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 9.29 am, four months after earlier operation had failed.

Probe necessary on Justice Loya’s death: Rahul Gandhi




Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday demanded that investigation should be done on Justice Loya’s death. This comes after 4 Supreme Court Judges addressed the media today and raised concerns on the fair functioning of the Indian judiciary. He also added that he believes in the nation’s legal system and today’s developments were shocking and unprecedented and that the points raised by these judges are extremely important.

India beat Pakistan by seven wickets in their third match of the Blind Cricket World Cup in UAE on Friday. For the second time in a row, India won the toss and this time too they elected to field. Put into bat Pakistan scored 282 for the loss of 8 wickets in 40 Overs. For Pakistan Md Jail scored 90 runs in 91 balls before he was retired hurt. India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the World Cup forced the organisers to shift all their matches to UAE.

Mumbai: Karni Sena members protests outside CBFC office 



96 members of the Rajput right wing group, Karni Sena were detained in Mumbai for protesting against the movie ‘Padmavat’ outside CBFC’s office in Gamdevi. The protesters, headed by Sena leader Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi ‘gheraod’ the CBFC, while demanding resignation of Chief Prasoon Joshi for clearing the release date of the film for 25th January.

Students sit on road in unique protest against lack of sanitation 


Hundreds of students held a unique protest outside the Dharamsala Government District Library of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh over its lack of basic sanitation and inadequate cleanliness. The protestors claimed that they had complained about the lack of hygiene, many a times to deputy collector and local BJP MP and even wrote to the Prime Minister’s office, but to no avail.

Sensex, Nifty again on lifetime highs



Indian equity benchmarks rose to record highs in today’s dynamic session, led by gains in Reliance Industries, HDFC and ICICI bank. The BSE Sensex hit a fresh lifetime high of 34,638.42 in the early trade before settling 88 points higher at 34,592. The broader Nifty, after scaling an all-time intraday high of 10,690 points, ended at 10,681, up by 30 points. The markets saw a sharp fall soon after 4 Supreme Court Judges addressed the media and raised concerns about the Indian judiciary.

Trump refers to African nations are Sh***ole countries


Talking about immigration with lawmakers, US President Donald Trump termed South African nations as Sh***hole countries. He said that US should bring immigrants from countries like Norway. Trump specifically questioned why the U.S. would want to admit more people from Haiti. Trump has inaccurately claimed that Barack Obama, the nation's first black president, wasn't born in the United States. He has said Mexican immigrants were "bringing crime" and were "rapists."
