Aarushi Murder Case: Allahabad HC term parents ‘not guilty’
The Allahabad HC acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar from the double murder case of their daughter Aarushi and servant, Hemraj on Thursday. The Judgment was pronounced by a two-member bench, which said conviction can’t be based on suspicion and they have to be given benefit of doubt. On May 16, 2008, Aarushi Talvar was found dead with throat slit in the bedroom of her Noida house. Hemraj’s body was found on the terrace a day later. The couple, has been behind bars since November 2013 and will now finally walk out free. Although their release is likely to be challenged by CBI in Supreme Court very soon.

“Not potholes, but accidents kill people”: Karnataka CM
After the pothole problem in the
city of Bengaluru claimed its fourth victim in a month, Chief Minister of
Karnataka Siddaramaiah said it is “not the potholes that lead to the deaths,
but accidents”. The Congress led government in the state has been much
criticized lately for not taking any steps towards the growing number of
potholes in the IT capital of the country. Earlier this week, the CM had
promised that 15,000 potholes in the city would be repaired in a matter of 15
days, as the opposition attacked with accusations of a scam.

Dates of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly polls out
The Election Commission announced
the dates for the Assembly elections in the states of Himachal Pradesh and
Gujarat on Wednesday. Himachal Pradesh will lead the process on November 9 and
the counting will be held in December 18, while Gujarat will go on elections
prior to December 18. Addressing the media, Chief Election Commissioner AK
Jyoti said this is to conduct simultaneous counting in the states. 7521 polling
booths in Himachal Pradesh will go into voting, with a 136 all women managed
booth also active in the state, for the first time. The EC also set expenditure
limit for each candidate at 28 lakhs.

We showed desire for peace with India, but ‘it takes two to tango’: Pakistan Army Chief
Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday said,
Pakistan has shown “genuine desire” to have “normal and peaceful relations”
with India, but “it takes two to tango”. The situation in Pakistan’s
neighbourhood continues to remain in a crisis, “With a belligerent India on our
east and an unstable Afghanistan on our west, the region remains captive due to
historical baggage and negative competition, “added Bajwa. He was talking at a
seminar “Interplay of Economy and Security” in Karachi.

Shiv Sena leader runs car over school girls
A Shiv Sena leader from
Pune district of Maharashtra ran his SUV car over three school girls. Two girls
died on the spot in the accident and one was critically injured. The SUV car
belonged to Shiv Sena Shakha Pramukh of Baramati, Pappu Mane and he was the one
driving the car when the accident happened and has fled from the spot leaving
his SUV behind. The incident happened on the Baramati-Morgaon road. The
citizens, furious with the incident, set fire to the leader’s SUV and held a
‘rasta roko’ for a few hours, after the incident. However, the leader has
declined even being inside the car when the accident occurred.

SC announces guidelines for designating senior posts to lawyers
The Supreme Court issued a series of guidelines for appointing senior designations to lawyers on Thursday. A three judge bench headed by Ranjan Gogoi, along with justices RF Nariman and Navin Sinha also recommended setting up a permanent committee under the Chief Justice of India, which would collect all the information on the candidates that are to be promoted to a higher rank. The committee would include an senior SC or a High Court judge, as the case requires. It will also include a representative of the bar and Attorney General in case of the apex court and Advocate General in case of high courts.

SC agrees to examine plea seeking regulation on app-based taxi services
Supreme Court agreed to examine a plea seeking to regulate regulatory app-based taxi service like Uber, Ola and Redbus accountable for offence committed by drivers. Earlier, SC has asked the Centre to examine the issue and respond to how these services can be regulated. The hearing is now scheduled for December 7. In 2016, the Delhi High Court had directed all app-based cab aggregators to update driver details and get their records verified by police.
