Petrol, Diesel prices to change everyday from May 1


Starting May 1, petrol and diesel prices will change every day in sync with the international rates similar to most advanced markets worldover.



As per the new development, State-owned fuel retailers Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL), which own over 95 per cent of the petrol pumps in the country, will launch a pilot for daily price revision.

The scheme will intially be launched in five select cities from May 1 and will gradually be extended all over the country.

Yuva Vahini Members drag couple out of Meerut home, Allege conversion 


Members of Hindu Yuva Vahini, a right-wing group founded by UP Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday barged into a private home and dragged a couple to a police station in Meerut.

While Yuva Vahini members alleged that the boy and girl were from different religions and that the boy was trying to convert the girl, the neighbours who were the intial complainants and had called the police said that the couple was indulging in obscenity which had a bad influence on their kids.

The UP police let the girl free and sent the boy to jail after which he was given bail.

Budget Session ends, termed as Most Productive


Both the houses of the parliament were adjourned sine die on Wednesday as the budget session came to an end with the passage of 18 bills and the government terming it as one of the most productive sessions.

Parliamnetary Affairs minister Ananth Kumar thanked the Opposition for the passage of the various bills, including those relating to the budget and GST.

Kumar however was critical of the Congress for its stance on the Constitution amendment bill aimed at forming a new National Commission for Backward Classes and the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill in Rajya Sabha.

Yamuna floodplain repair impacted by AOL event to cost 42.02 crore: NGT


An expert committee report of the National Green Tribunal has revealed that rehabilitation OF the Yamuna floodplains, which was “adversely impacted” by a cultural event organised by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living (AoL) last year, will cost over Rs 42.02 crore and may take up to ten years.

The committee, headed by Shashi Shekhar, Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources however clarified that “these estimates are approximate and need to be strengthened through commissioning of a DPR (detailed project report).” and also recommended that major restoration work be carried out to compensate for the damage to the floodplains.

20 IAS officers transferred by Yogi Govt in UP


In its first major administrative reshuffle on Wednesday, 20 senior IAS officers most of whom were considered close to former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav were transferred by the new Yogi Adityanath led government.

The officers were either put on wait-list or named as revenue board members.

Not sure Dhoni is a good T20 player: Ganguly


Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday said Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a "champion ODI player" but doubted if he is still that good in the shortest format.

"I am not too sure if Dhoni is a good T20 player. He is a champion ODI player but when it comes to T20 cricket, in 10 years, he has got one fifty and that's not the best record," Ganguly told a TV channel.

Ganguly's scathing comments came on the back Dhoni's ever-falling run in the shortest format of the game.
