KCR takes oath as Telangana’s 2nd CM
Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao was sworn in as the second Chief Minister of Telangana on Thursday by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan. Popularly known as KCR, the TRS supreme took the oath at 1.34 PM sharp, an “auspicious” time according to the chief priest of the Yadadari temple. Rao’s party won the polls with a huge majority of 88 out of the 119 seats in Telangana. Chandrashekar Rao was re-elected from Gajwel in Siddipet district by a margin of 58,290 votes. The 64-year-old TRS party president first became chief minister of Telangana after the party won a majority in the 2014 elections after the bifurcation of the state from Andhra Pradesh. TRS leaders, who did not want to be quoted, said that the new Cabinet ministers would be declared in a week’s time and that only some from the previous Cabinet will be part of the new one, as reported by Livemint.____________________
Cyclonic storm likely over Bay of Bengal causing rains in AP, TN
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in a bulletin on Thursday stated that the existing depression system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to develop into a cyclone over the sea by Friday. The depression, which is predicted to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm (with winds of up to 120 kmph), is currently more than 1,000 km away from the Indian coast. The cyclonic storm is expected to move towards Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coast over the next 72 hours and the regions could witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD has warned fishermen against venturing out in to the sea this week and advised those deep in the sea to return to the coast by December 14. Wind speeds will pick up and reach up to 80 kilometres per hour by the weekend.

Kerala BJP calls for shutdown after man suicides in Sabarimala protest
The state of Kerala on Thursday got itself into a fresh controversy after a 49-year-old man set himself on fire outside the BJP sit-in protest spot near the Sabarimala temple, Thiruvananthapuram and later succumbed to his injuries, putting the Kerala government in a fix. As per news reports, the victim identified as Venugopal Nair poured kerosene on himself and lit a fire at around 2am while chanting hymns of ‘swami ayappan.’ Nair was then rushed to Government Medical College with 90% burns and was declared dead a few hours later. The BJP unit in the state has declared a state-wide shutdown in protest following the death against the ruling Left Democratic Front party and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

SC issues notice to Maharashtra CM for not declaring criminal cases against him
The Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for not declaring the criminal cases pending against him. A petition submitted by a lawyer Satish Ukey had told the top court that CM Fadnavis have cases of cheating and defamation against him which he has not disclosed in the 2014 election affidavit while contenting from the South West assembly constituency. Mr Ukey further asked for the resignation of Fadnavis as a legislator. Hearing the order, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph issued a notice order for the CM. According to a report by the Indian Express, Fadnavis’ nomination on myneta.info portal shows the CM having a total of 22 cases against him.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh supports Meghalaya HC's 'India is a Hindu Rashtra' comment
A day after the ‘India should have been a Hindu country’ statement by Meghalaya High Court sparked controversy, Union Minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises Giriraj Singh said he supported the stand and that is what the people want. Justice Sundip Rajan Sen of the Meghalaya HC on December 12 has said India should have been declared a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ in 1947 just as Pakistan calls itself an Islamic nation. Supporting Justice Sen, Minister Giriraj said, “"I fully agree with him (Justice Sen). I thank him as someone holding a constitutional post has made a comment that reflects the thoughts of the majority population." Meanwhile, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and AIMIM leader Asauddin Owaisi slammed the comment.
