PDP-NC-Congress join hands to form govt in Jammu and Kashmir
After months of Governor rule in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), National Conference (NC) and the Indian National Congress (INC) decided to put together a front against the BJP, and stake claim to form the government on Wednesday. Though there is no official confirmation from the parties, news reports claimed that former Finance Minister of the state, Altaf Bukhari will assume the Chief Minister’s post. Speaking to news agencies Bukhari confirmed that senior leaders Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Rahul Gandhi have agreed to it. Very soon you will get the good news.” The government of Jammu and Kashmir had fallen after Mufti's PDP decided to exit from the NDA on June 16 this year.

Indian airlines in severe need of credit, asks govt for help
Airlines in India are in severe need of financial help and have asked the government to help them get unsecured credit from oil companies and airports, several news agencies reported on Wednesday. In a letter, the Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) consisting of Jet Airways, IndiGo, GoAir, and SpiceJet addressed to the Ministry of Civil Aviation last week said that ‘competition and aggressive pricing are stopping fares from rising to reflect higher input costs.’ The entire problem, as per Livemint, is because of the cut-throat competition amongst global airlines to keep the fares low while fluctuations in fuel prices and weaker value of rupee continue to give losses.

One arrested in Nirankari Bhavan blast, confesses to Pak making the grenade
In an update to the grenade blast that killed three people and injured ten in Amritsar’s Nirankari Bhavan sect congregation, Punjab Chief Minister Captain. Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said that the ISI-backed Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) was behind the attack. Two locals- Bikramjit Singh and Avtar Singh have been identified as accused. While Bikramjit a native of Dhariwal village admitted to the crime, Avtar is currently on the run. News reports also claimed that Bikramjit confessed to the grenade being made in Pakistan by a ‘Happy’, who is believed to be KLF chief Harmeet Singh. Addressing a press conference Capt Singh said, “These kinds of pellets are manufactured in Pakistan Ordinance Factory. Pakistan ISI is resorting to all such things.”

American tourist killed by tribe on Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 7 arrested
27-year-old American tourist was killed by people belonging to the protected Sentinelese Tribes in the North Sentinel Island on Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Wednesday. Seven people including the fisherman who took the victim John Allen Chau on the Island were arrested in connection with the case. According to a report published in a newspaper in Port Blair, Chau had visited the Andaman and Nicobar Islands five times earlier too. He had expressed a desire to meet the Sentinelese Tribe, which is known to resist all contact with outsiders, often firing arrows at anyone who comes near. “He was attacked by arrows but he continued walking. The fishermen saw the tribals tying a rope around his neck and dragging his body. They were scared and fled but returned next morning to find his body on the seashore”, the police informed the media
Akshay Kumar appears before Punjab SIT in a 2015 Sacrilege case
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Wednesday appeared before a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Punjab government to probe the police firing inside Faridkot’s Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura on people protesting over the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib. Two people had died in the police firing in 2015 and Self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s supporters were alleged to be involved in cases of desecration. According to reports, pages of the religious text were found torn and scattered. The SIT questioned the actor after it was alleged that the actor brought together Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and the then deputy chief minister to ensure the Punjab release of MSG-2, a controversial movie made by the sect chief. The actor, however, dismissed all allegations during the meeting.
