2008 Malegaon Blast: Lt Col Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya charged

A special court in Mumbai on Tuesday charged Lt Col Shrikant Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur along with five other people in the 2008 Malegaon blast case which killed six people and injured at least 101 in Maharashtra’s Nashik. Updating the 2017 special NIA court order, Justice Vinod Padalkar, along with Purohit and Pragya, held Major (retd) Ramesh Upadhyay, Sameer Kulkarni, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Dwivedi and Sudhakar Chaturvedi guilty of terror conspiracy under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Law (UAPA) and of murder and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Reacting to the order, Sadhvi Pragya said, “Earlier NIA had given me a clean chit. Now charges have been framed against me. This was a conspiracy by Congress but I will come out innocent.” The framing of charges will begin from November 2.

Will make Indore best city in India: Rahul Gandhi in MP 

Addressing a rally in Indore on the second day of his campaign in Madhya Pradesh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said Congress will work to make Indore the best city in the world. Conversing with a gathering of shopkeepers in the city he said, “Did the shopkeepers of Indore benefit from the GST?” further adding that if the Congress comes to power in 2019 it will bring in a corruption-free system of one tax. Accompanied by MP chief Kamal Nath and State campaign committee Jyotiraditya Scindia, Gandhi further attacked the Shivraj Singh Chauhan government for not providing employment to youths and declining growth in the textile industry.

SC changes time limits for bursting crackers in southern states

Supreme Court on Tuesday modified its earlier order on the bursting of firecrackers on Diwali, giving the states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry the autonomy to set its own time period. The order came after the Tamil Nadu government had moved the apex court against its October 23 verdict when the top court fixed the 8pm -10 pm slot for bursting firecrackers during Diwali. Giving the order, the bench of Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan, however, cautioned that the activity will be allowed for a time frame of 2 hours. The top court further clarified that the sale of green firecrackers will be applied only to the Delhi-NCR region and not across India.

CBI case update: Officer challenges transfer in SC, claims evidence against Asthana

In the latest development of ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation turmoil, CBI officer AK Bassi challenged Supreme Court for his transfer to Andaman and Nicobar islands. He claimed that he has “incriminating evidence” against CBI special director Rakesh Asthana who is sent on leave alleging of taking bribes from a businessman Moin Qureshi. Bassi's plea came into notice before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and will soon notify a date to hear the case. Furthermore, the SC directed police protection for Hyderabad based businessman Satish Sana who accused Asthana of bribery charges. On 24th October both Rakesh Asthana and CBI director Alok Verma was sent on leave till the probe on corruption charges is ongoing. Soon after interim CBI chief Nageshwar Rao reshuffled the team and transferred many officials to Port Blair.

Trump rejects India’s R-Day invitation citing ‘scheduling constraints’

US President Donald Trump turned down India’s invitation to Republic Day parade 2019 due to ‘scheduling constraints’. Trump refused to be the part of the event citing he has to deliver the State of the Union (SOTU) address to the US Congress. "President Trump was honored by Prime Minister Modi's invitation for him to be the chief guest of India's Republic Day on January 26, 2019, but is unable to participate due to scheduling constraints," the White House said while addressing news agencies. The statement, however, stressed that both the leaders share a ‘personal rapport’ and said President Trump looks forward to meeting PM Modi at the earliest opportunity.”
