Agusta Westland accused Christian Michel missing, says lawyer

A day after a Dubai court declared that middlemen accused in the million deal VVIP chopper deal Agusta Westland will be extradited to India, British man Christian Michel has been reported missing by his lawyer. According to lawyer Amal Alsubei, Michel has not been found since the order was published. “He will be arrested if found. He is likely to appeal to the Supreme Court,” Alsubei was quoted by news reports. Michel, a British consulate was accused in the 3,600 crore scam in 2014 for conspiring to provide helicopters for the Indian President, Prime Minister among others in favour of Italian helicopter design and manufacturing company, AgustaWestland.

Amazon, Samara Capital acquire Birla's grocery chain More

American multi-millionaire Amazon along with private equity fund Samara capital acquired the grocery chain of Aditya Birla Group on Wednesday for a Rs 4,200 crore deal.  Billionaire Kumar Mangalam Birla and his family acquire approximately 62 percent and 37 percent stake in the venture. As per a report by Bloomberg Quint, the deal was done at a marginal amount due to family relations, however, both parties have not published any formal statement on the deal. Being one of the largest supermarket chains in the country, More has over 500 supermarkets and 20 hypermarket and stores across the country.

North-South Korea end 65 years of war, Kim assures dismantling of nuclear sites

In a historic meeting, the leaders of both North and South Korea on Wednesday agreed on denuclearization for assuring peace in both the regions, ending their 65 years of war. Holding a joint press conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, North Korean supremo Kim Jong Un promised that he would be shutting all the nuclear sites in the country following assurance form the United States that it would not engage any war in the Korean peninsula region. The leaders, reportedly, also signed a 117-page joint statement including discussions on holding the 2023 Summer Olympics together and agreeing not to promote ‘any hostile act against one another.’

No representation for accused of Rewari CBSE topper gang rape case

The Rewari and Kosli Bar Associations have decided that they will not represent the accused in the CBSE topper gangrape case. They have also demanded setting up of a fast-track court to expedite the trial. In a memorandum to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, submitted through the district administration, the Rewari Bar Association on Tuesday condemned the brutality committed on the teenager as a “blot” on civilized society and made clear its decision not to represent the accused in the court. The 19-year-old woman, a school topper hailing from Rewari, was abducted from a bus stop in Kanina town of Mahendragarh district on Wednesday when on way to a coaching class. She was allegedly drugged and gang-raped at a room adjoining a tubewell in an agricultural field.

BSF jawan killed in Pakistan firing found with throat slit

A day after a Border Security Force officer was killed on Tuesday in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in J&K, it emerged on Wednesday that the body of the jawan not just had three bullet wounds but also had its throat slit. The body of Narender Kumar, who was part of a group of eight BSF personnel who had gone near the border to cut foliage, was found on Tuesday evening with three bullet wounds on the chest, shoulder and the legs. Initially, the soldier was reported missing as he could not be traced given the topography of the area along the International Border. A comprehensive search operation was launched by the BSF parties to trace out the soldier. Later in the evening, the BSF parties’ were able to locate the body of the fallen soldier.
