CBI writes to Antigua government; seeks arrest of Mehul Choksi
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday has written to the Antigua government through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) asking it to arrest fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi. The move came right after the CBI informed the MEA that the PNB scam accused fugitive billionaire Mehul Choksi can be arrested without an Interpol Red Corner Notice (RCN) is possible as it is not mandatory for the process. The purpose of the RCN is to locate an absconding accused which has already been achieved in the case of Mehul Choksi after the Antiguan government has confirmed that he is now their citizen. Hence the CBI wants the island nation to arrest him and begin to process for his formal extradition to India. Meanwhile, Choksi too like another fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, in order to avoid facing the law, has said in the court that the condition of Indian jails is bad.
