Telangana govt celebrates Rs 66 crore Iftar party admits public criticism 


In a lavish series of events, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandshekar Rao held the grand 'Dawat-e-Iftar' event, on Friday organised by his cabinet, worth Rs 66 crore. Attended by prominent personalities from the political circle including Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi, KCR lauded that his state is setting an example in minority welfare. While the budget of the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs is around ₹4,000 crore, Telangana is the only state with a ₹2,000 crore budget for minorities welfare,” KCR told the audience gathered at LB Stadium in Hyderabad. Earlier in the day, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Hyderabad High Court against the event, followed by social activists also approaching the judicial body alleging the CM of misusing public funds.

Dead body found in Rashtrapati Bhavan's servant quarters


In a shocking incident, decaying body of a man was found at the staff quarters of the President of India's official residence Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, after rest of the staff noticed foul smell coming from one of the rooms. The deceased identified as Trilok Chand, worked at the President's Secretariat and had recently come to stay at the servant quarters. As the room was locked from inside police broke it open and upon investigation found the body is at least four to five days old. As per news reports, though his cause of death is not clear, police sources believe it to be a heart attack as he had been unwell for some time. "According to preliminary investigation, it looks like a natural death," Deputy Commissioner of Police said. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

140 killed in Bangladesh anti-drug war, UN calls it 'dangerous'

Apex global peacekeeping body, the United Nations on Friday slammed the government of Bangladesh for the alleged 'blood bath' being carried out in the nation in the name of anti-drug war. At least 140 people have been killed since security forces began an anti-drug drive last month after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called on law enforcement to press operations against narcotic traffickers. "Even if people have been selling or using drugs that does not mean you have the right to kill them, they need to have the right to due process," Ms Shamdasani, spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said in an official statement. Meanwhile, the Bangladeshi government has justified their act on grounds that none of the dead were innocent and were involved in drug trade in some or the other way.

 After PM Modi, letters planning assassination of Maharashtra CM found

The Pune police on Friday revealed details of a massive assassination plan that was being organized by Maoists groups against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, several media reports quoting officials said. The police has arrested five people across India in connection to the Bhima Koregaon violence of January 2018, on charges conspiracy of riots. Upon investigation, the police retrieved a bunch of letters and emails relating to the assassination attempt. As per reports by news agencies, there are two letters that talk of assassinating Fadnavis and his family in retaliation to gunning down of 37 Maoists by security forces in Gadchiroli area in April 2018.

Famous CNN celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain commits suicide

American celebrity chef, author and television personality Anthony Bourdain was found dead in a hotel room in France on Friday, reported CNN. The 61-year-old author hanged himself inside the hotel room, confirmed network’s Brian Stelter. Bourdain was found unresponsive by his close friend Eric Ripert, the renowned French chef, in his hotel room on Friday morning. Bourdain rose to dame in the year 2000, when his book ‘Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly’ became a New York Times Bestseller. He began his career on television in 2002 with a food and world-travel show titled A Cook’s Tour. Other culinary hosted by Bourdain include Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and the Layover. He moved to CNN in 2013 with his food show “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown”, which is currently in its eleventh season.

Haryana govt suspends order asking for 1/3 income from sportspersons 


The Haryana government on Friday suspended their earlier order seeking one-third income from sportsmen belonging to the state following a backlash from senior players, media reports said. The govt had said that the amount will be used for development of sports in the state - can go up to all of earnings if the athlete has been granted leave with pay from a government job. The Haryana govt, defending their decision had said that "In any state government or central government, an employee is not allowed to take part in commercial activities”. Thirteen of the 22 athletes who won medals at Gold Coast, represent organisations such as Indian Railways and Army.

Bribery charges on UP CM's principal secretary, Probe ordered

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s office landed into fresh controversy on Friday after the Governor in a letter to CM Yogi Adityananth, inquired about the complaint of a Lucknow based businessman alleging charges of bribery on the CMO’s Principal Secretary Shashi Prakash Goel. In the letter dated April 30th, businessman Abhishek Gupta has claimed that he was asked to pay Rs 25 lakhs by Goel for the road widening of his petrol pump project in Hardoi district. After the revelation, the city police detained Gupta instead, based on the charges of state BJP unit that he is ‘tarnishing the image of top party leaders for personal gains.' Meanwhile, Congress party has demanded a judicial probe on the matter.

Second IAF aircraft crashes in Jamnagar within a week


Three days after a fighter jet of the Indian Air Forces (IAF) crashed in Gujarat’s Jamnagar, a similar incident took place on Friday morning when an aircraft crashed landed in the same religion. The Jaguar aircraft, was on a routine plane mission when it faced the unfortunate incident. However the pilot, squadron leader Budhwar rescued himself in time, without sustaining any major injuries. “The aircraft developed a snag during the landing phase. It was a minor accident. the pilot is safe,” an IAF official was quoted by news agencies. .

Pranab’s visit will help create much-needed tolerance: Advani 

BJP veteran LK Advani today described former president Pranab Mukherjee's visit to the RSS headquarters as ‘a significant event in our country’s history’. As a lifelong 'swayamsevak' of the RSS, the BJP veteran said he believed that Mr Mukherjee and Mr Bhagwat have truly set a praiseworthy example of dialogue keeping aside differences. "Such conversations, conducted in the spirit of openness and mutual respect, will surely help in creating a much-needed atmosphere of tolerance, harmony and co-operation to build an India of our common dreams," he said. Praising Mr Mukherjee, Mr Advani said he showed grace and goodwill in accepting the RSS invite as he recalled his long association with him.
