Fashion designer Kate spade commits suicide by hanging at 55


American fashion designer Kate Spade was reported dead on late Tuesday night, as she was found hanging in her New York apartment and a note was recovered from the site, as per international media agencies. The 55-year-old ace designer who as known for her line of bags, was living in the flat with her husband. The cause of the death and other details will further divulge as the body is received after autopsy. Meanwhile, Spade’s family expressing their need for privacy at the moment said “We are all devastated by today’s tragedy,” through an official statement.

Karnataka CM suggests postponing Rajnikanth’s movie after controversial Cauvery remark


Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday has asked film distributors in the state not to release Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s Kaala after the actor made controversial remarks on the Cauvery river row. Kumaraswamy’s statement came after the Madras High Court passed to responsibility on him to ensure a secured released of the release, but the state chief remained adamant that his remarks are on personal capacity. Rajinikanth’s statement that ‘whichever government comes to power in Karnataka should implement the Supreme Court order on Cauvery water sharing’ did not gel well with the pro Kannada organisations and the Kannada Film Chambers on Commerce had also demanded stalling the movie.

11 killed, 25 trapped in China iron mine blast


At least 11 people were reported dead and 9 injured in China’s after an explosion occurred in an iron ore mining on Tuesday. The mine located at Liaoning province,Benxi and under the ownership of the government’s China National Coal Group Co, is still housing 25 victims under the debris, Chinese media agencies reported. While rescuers from the Benxi district are currently on rescue operation as per media reports the people believed trapped have made contact.

Ola Bengaluru driver strips woman, takes her photos; arrested

A man reported to be a driver to cab aggregator Ola, in Karnataka’s Bengaluru was arrested in Tuesday for forcing a woman to strip and pose and threatening to rape her with his friends. The complainant, a 26-year-old woman had taken a cab with the man as the driver and demanded a trip to Bengaluru international Airport. “The accused reportedly tried to strangle her when she refused. The woman complied and gave him the photos he wanted. He shared them through WhatsApp to his phone number,” the police reportedly said. The woman who was dropped in the airport with warning mailed the JB Nagar police. Meanwhile, expressing regret at the event, Ola Cabs said the driver that had no last criminal record and they had done a thorough research on his documents.

TN girl’s suicides over NEET exam, opp questions AIADMK

In an unfortunate incident, the state of Tamil Nadu yet again saw aspiring NAtional Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examinee taking its life on failure to score good marks in the 2018 exams. 19-year-old Prateebha from Villupuram district belonged to a family with meagre income as her father worked as a construction labour. “She took rat poison after she failed the NEET,” the police was quoted as per news reports. Prateebha’s death created fresh debate over the NEET exam as opposition political party DMK lashed at the ruling AIADMK for letting the central exam take place in spite of the widespread protest it had gathered last year after another student, S Anitha’s suicide had generated statewide agitation.

Sajid Khan linked with Sonu Jalan in IPL betting 


IPL bookie Sonu Jalan on Tuesday revealed Farah Khan’s brother & filmmaker Sajid Khan's name in connection with the million dollars betting scandal, CNN News18 reported. Jalan has admitted that he knew Sajid Khan since the last 7 years and that they used to place bets together, the report added. This is the third Bollywood connection that has emerged in the IPL betting racket. Two days back, actor Arbaaz Khan and producer Parag Sanghvi were named in the controversy and were summoned by the Thane police. Arbaaz Khan even admitted that he placed bets in IPL 2017 and lost money to the tune of 2.75 crores. Sajid Khan is better known for directing movies like Heyy Baby, Housefull and Himmatwala.

Reservation to continue for SC/ST employees in promotions

The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave permission to the Union government to provide reservation in promotion for employees belonging to the SC/ ST category in ‘accordance with law’ until the constitution bench comes to a conclusion about the issue. The Centre told the bench that promotions have come to a standstill after the orders passed by various High Courts and the government is bound to give promotion to its employees. The government said there were separate verdicts by the high courts of Delhi, Bombay, Punjab and Haryana on the issue of reservation in promotion to SC/ST employees. Also, the apex court had passed different orders on appeals filed against such judgments in the past. The SC, in order to clear the confusion and resolve the issue, has handed over the matter to a constitutional bench. The SC added to the confusion by saying the promotion can be proceeded with as per 'a law' but we won't mention what is the law.

Shashi Tharoor to face trial in Sunanda Pushkar case on 7th July

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor was summoned to appear before Delhi’s Patiala House court on July 7 in wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death case. After taking note of the charge-sheet filed by the police, the court said that there is enough proof against Tharoor to start a trial. The police had charged Tharoor under Sections 306 and 498A of the IPC that dealt with the abetment to suicide and subjecting a woman to cruelty by her husband or his relative respectively. Sunanda Pushkar was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014. Reacting to the charges, Tharoor said he finds them 'baseless' and a revengeful campaign was being meted out against him.

BJP reaches out to allies, Amit Shah to meet Shiv Sena, Akali Dal chiefs

Paving the way for the much awaited general election in 2019, BJP chief Amit Shah on Tuesday announced he will be visiting Maharashtra and Punjab this week as a part of the 'Sampark for Samarthan' program, to enhance ties with stranded allies- Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Shah’s move comes after Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena decided to contest all elections up to 2019 separately. Shiv Sena chief Udhhav Thackeray after losing Lok Sabha elections in Palghar on 29th May had lashed on to their central ally BJP calling them ‘its biggest political enemy.’ "Amit Shah sought time to meet Uddhav ji. Accordingly, an appointment for Wednesday evening has been given to him," Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said. Similarly, Shah will be meeting SAD chief Prakash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir on Thursday

400 Kerala police personnel launch search op for BCom student

The Kerala police on Tuesday launched a massive operation for finding 20-year-old Jesna Maria James, who has been missing since March 22, this year. Jesna, a second-year BCom student from Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district had supposedly told her aunt that she would be visiting her in Kottayam, at a distance of 20 km but never made it. As per news reports, a troop of 400 police personnel are searching the Idukki forest area. “We have ten squads under a deputy superintendent of police scanning the areas of Erumely, Mundakkayam, Kuttikanam and Peerumed forest divisions,” Kottayam Superintendent of police Hari Shankar was quoted by news agencies.

Goa Archbishop 'Constitution in danger' comment creates controversy

In a controversial statement, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Father Filipe Nero Ferrao on Tuesday wrote a letter urging Christians to protect the Constitution as it is in danger and a lot of people are living with insecurity. “In this context, particularly as the general elections are fast approaching, we must strive to know our constitution better and work harder to protect it," the Archbishop said in the letter. Denying any political angle to the statement, Goa Archbishop’s Secretary said: “1-2 statements have been taken out of context and issue is created.” In May, Delhi Archbishop Anil Cuoto’s asking the Christian community to observe fast on Fridays and hold prayers for the nation's sake had created a political upheaval.
