Kerala govt to pay medical bills of Nipah affected patients
The Kerala government on Monday announced that it would pay the medical bills of all the victims that are currently affected by the deadly Nipah Virus. Making the announcement in an all party meeting, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, “The state government will bear all the expenses of these patients who underwent treatment for Nipah.” The ruling CPM government also announced It would continue providing free food to 2,500 people in the most affected districts, Kozhikode and Malappuram. The life threatening outbreak that has claimed 16 lives already has reportedly been contained by the concerned authorities as CM Vijayan also assured of no possibility of a second outbreak.

Govt appoints MK Jain as new RBI deputy governor
The government o on Monday declared Mukesh Kumar Jain as the new and fourth deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India, who has formerly been the managing director and chief executive officer of IDBI Bank. With over 30 years of experience, Jain has worked on prestigious projects like the Basant Seth committee on 'review and revamp of audit system in public sector banks (PSBs) as the secretary and coordinator and as a member on a government-constituted committee on public interest litigation related to non-performing assets (NPA).' Jain, will join the Urijit Patel headed panel along with other serving deputy governors- Viral V Acharya, N S Vishwanathan and BP Kanungo.

Day 4 Farmers Protest: Punjab decides to back out, vegetables prices go high
Prices of vegetables and milk shot up to a new high as farmers of some states of India continued their protest against the unfair pricing of agricultural output by the government. According to news reports, prices increased by Rs 10-20 per kg with Chandigarh reportedly selling tomatoes for Rs 20-Rs 25. The prices of potato, capsicum, bottle gourd, and cucumber have also gone up, increasing the worry for consumers. Meanwhile, the Punjab farmers association has decided to end the strike at June 6, four days before the call day. “To avoid dispute between suppliers & farmers we've decided to end our protest, in Punjab, on June 6 itself,” BS Raju, Bhartiya Kisan Union was quoted by news agencies.

Four cops among 16 injured in Kashmir grenade attack
At least four cops among sixteen people were injured as fresh violence was reported from Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian on Monday. The attack, captured in a public CCTV camera caught a grenade being thrown at the police personnel stationed at Batapora Chowk, but missed the target and hit the street. “A young girl has received critical injuries in this explosion while four policemen also sustained injuries," a state police spokesperson was quoted by news reports. The incident comes after a week-long series of attacks carried out by militants, the most recent one being on June 2, where three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and two civilians were injured.

Shillong curfew extended after attack on police vehicle
Curfew in the violence-stricken city of Shillong was extended for the fourth consecutive day on Monday after a mob attacked police vehicles on Sunday night. Continuing the suspension on internet and sale of illegal petrol and diesel, the Centre deployed 1,000 paramilitary troops and army was also called in. “Curfew has been imposed from 4 pm on Monday to 5 am Tuesday as there is a likelihood that breach of peace may spread to other parts of the city,” Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Peter S Dkharwas told news agencies. Tension ensued in the city after an alleged episode of an argument between few Sikh women of Punjabi Colony and a conductor of the State transport bus on Thursday. Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma maintained that the violence was a sponsored act.____________
CM Patnaik orders judicial probe into missing keys of Jagannath Temple
Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday ordered judicial probe into the issue missing keys of a crucial treasury chamber Ratna Bhandar of 12-century Jagannath Temple. The decision came amid protests by the Shankaracharya of Puri, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The case of the missing keys of the inner chambers came in to light two months ago, on April 4, during a meeting of the Sri Jagannath Temple Managing Committee. A 16-member committee had entered the temple for inspection on April 4 as per the order of the Orissa High Court however it came into light that they were not able to enter the inner chambers of the temple because the keys of the chambers were missing. The issue sparked controversy in the state leading to protests and the BJP & Congress questioning the CM following which the probe was ordered.

Do not issue Aadhaar to Rohingyas: Centre’s directive to states
The Central government on Monday directed all states harbouring Rohingya refugees to restrict their movement to camps and not to provide them with Aadhaar. Directing even Jammu and Kashmir government to follow the order, the Centre observed that refugees pose a challenge of being ‘vulnerable to radicalization.’ As per news reports, the letter issued by Home Ministry to the states said, “The biometrics of illegal migrants must be recorded to avoid their use to get Indian identity documents.” The move from the government comes in compliance with its decision presented in the Supreme Court last year that the continued immigration of Rohingyas has posed ‘serious threat to national security.’

IPL Betting Scam: Two Bollywood producers also involved, reports police
The ongoing case of illegal betting during the Indian Premier League 2018 that revealed Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan to be an active participant of the whole scam, on Monday had a development as it was reported that two producers from the Hindi film industry were also allegedly involved in the same. As per news reports, Maharashtra’s Senior Inspector Pradeep Sharma said film producers Parag Sanghvi and Murad Khaitan’s were also a part of the scam and Sanghvi was a partner to accused bookie Sonu Jalan. “We will call them (Sanghvi and Khaitan) for questioning. We will call Khan (Arbaaz) again if needed,” Sharma reportedly said.
