Suspected shooter arrested in Gauri Lankesh murder case
The Special Investigative Team (SIT) probing the murder of Bengaluru based journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, on Tuesday arrested 26-year-old on suspicion of being the one who shot the deceased. Alleged accused Parshuram Wagmare, a member of Sri Ram Sena, a right-wing extremist organisation is the second person to be arrested in the case after on Monday KT Naveen Kumar was taken in for planning the entire incident. Appearing before a magistrate’s court in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Wagmare has been sent to 14 days of police custody. While the SIT made no special statement, news reports carried sources account that said the police will hold Wagmare for questioning, to confirm his involvement. As of now, six people have been arrested in the September 5, 2017 case.

Assam police arrest 29 in fake child kidnappers death case
The Assam police arrested one person on Tuesday in connection with the recent mob lynching of two youth in Karbi Anglong over the suspicion of them being child kidnappers. The person was arrested from Karbi Anglong district during search operations,is said to be the part of almost 500 that killed the duo. Moreover, five more people were apprehended from the nearby town of Diphu for spreading fake news. "They (arrested individuals) have been found to be involved either in recording the incident or circulating the video on social media with communally hateful comments," an Assam police spokesman was quoted by news agencies. Two friends Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath were returning from a picnic spot in Karbi Anglong to Guwahati, when a group of villagers in Panjuri stopped then and beat them to death. The families of the deceased have demanded for fast track court and CBI probe into the matter.

The Arvind Kejriwal government continued its protests against the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal in his waiting room over the issue of IAS officers not coming to office since four month. Kejriwal along with Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Development Minister Gopal Rai and Education minister Satyendar Jain 'who is also on an indefinite hunger strike,' had started their sit-in protest at 6 pm on Monday and have not budged from the spot ever since. Kejriwal and company demand is for the IAS offers to come back to work after they had launched a partial strike since the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshul Prakash on 19 February this year by Aam Aadmi Party ministers. Posting a video message on social media, Kejriwal maintained that the AAP members 'will not step back until their demands are met.'

Gambhir slams DDCA after Navdeep Saini's selection in team
Gautam Gambhir did not mince his words to slam former cricketers and the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Tuesday with his junior Navdeep Saini getting a call to join the squad for the upcoming Afghanistan one-test series. The controversy arises from the incident when veteran cricketers and members of the DDCA Bishan Singh Bedi and Chetan Chauhan had declined Saini of selection in the Delhi Ranji Team as he was from Haryana and not from Delhi. Saini was called in for selection in the team on Monday after fellow bowler Mohammad Shami failed the fitness test. Expressing his rebellion, Gambhir took to micro blogging site Twitter, and mentioning Bedi and Chauhan and the Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) said, "Sir, just remember Navdeep is an Indian first then comes his domicile!"_______________

Rahul Gandhi pleads not guilty in RSS defamation case
Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday pleaded not guilty in a case related to a defamatory comment against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), appearing before a magistrate court in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi. The case related to a statement the leader made in 2014, at a rally when he said RSS was responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Asserting that Rahul has hurt RSS’ reputation, the court slapped charges under sections 499 (defamation) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code again this. "Let the BJP and RSS slap as many cases as they want against me. we will fight them and win," Gandhi told news agencies before leaving the court.

The upcoming film on the life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, got in trouble on Tuesday after a complaint was filed with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), citing displeasure over one of its controversial scene. The complaint filed by activist Prithvi Mhaske raises an objection to a scene from the trailer of the movie, where the on-screen Dutt played by actor Ranbir Kapoor, is lodged in a jail cabin that shows an overflowing toilet. Addressing CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi in the letter, Mhaske wrote: “This particular scene will make a bad impression about the jails and the authorities of the Indians (sic).” Mhaske added that if no action is taken, he will approach the judiciary to put a stay on the movie.
CM Parrikar to return to Goa this week: Reports
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is in the US for treatment of a pancreatic ailment, will return to the state this week, a senior official said on Tuesday. Parrikar, 62, has been in the US for treatment since March 2018. A senior official in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) confirmed his return and said that he will return to the state this week though the exact date was yet to be confirmed. Before leaving Goa, Parrikar had formed a cabinet advisory committee to guide the state administration on governance and other issues, in his absence. The committee comprises Sudin Dhavalikar (of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party), Francis D'Souza (of the BJP) and Vijai Sardesai (of the Goa Forward Party).________________
We will strengthen the banking system: Urjit Patel
Reserve Bank of India governor Urijit Patel on Tuesday assured steps were being taken to strengthen the system in a parliamentary Standing committee meeting called to address the health of various public sector banks. The meeting discussed the fallout of the nearly ₹ 13,000 crore fraud at the Punjab National Bank and other questions regarding bank frauds and bad loans. The governor also asked for more powers to control the government-owned banks, according to sources present at the meeting. There are 21 state-owned banks, including State Bank of India. Their combined losses crossed a whopping Rs. 87,300 crore in 2017-18. When asked about the Nirav Modi scam, Patel said that it is impossible to look after each and every bank branch in terms of audit. The governor also informed the committee that after implementation of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), the situation on the NPA front has been improving.________________

US-North Korea summit ends with denuclearisation promise
US President Donald Trump and North Korea leader Kim Jong-un held the highly anticipated summit in Singapore’s Sentosa on Monday morning, resulting in the leaders agreeing on denuclearisation and ease of sanctions successfully. "President Trump committed to providing security guarantees to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (the official name of North Korea) and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula," the joint statement signed by both the leaders read. Trump also added that he believes that North Korea will denuclearise ‘very, very quickly’ as they are very ‘proactive’. Kim Jong called the development ‘a major change that the world will see.’ The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday also came in support of the summit, calling it a positive development._______________
Videocon blames PM Modi, Supreme Court and Brazil for Rs 39,000 crore debt
Consumer appliance maker Videocon on Tuesday blamed PM Modi, the Supreme court and the Brazilian govt for the company’s Rs 39,000 crore debt. In a filing to the exchanges, Videocon Industries has claimed demonetisation forced to shut its CRT television business, oil and gas business got entangled in red tape in Brazil and the telecommunications venture suffered losses after the Supreme Court canceled licenses. The group of lenders, of Videocon Industries, led by the State Bank of India (SBI) NCLT to begin the resolution process, and a new owner had to be appointed through a bidding process in the next six months. The home appliances’ maker had then filed a counter-appeal, requesting to take back control of the company on Tuesday.________________
