SC not to stay Yeddurappa's oath as Karnataka CM but demands show of majority
In a rare move, the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra on early Thursday morning decided to entertain Congress plea seeking a stay on BJP’s BS Yeddyurappa taking oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka at 9 am today. The hearing that began in the wee hours of midnight continued till dawn, with the three bench of the apex court deciding that there will be no stay in the swearing-in ceremony but Yeddyurappa will have to produce the letter claiming his party BJP has enough MLAs to prove majority in the floor test on Friday. "It is necessary to peruse letters dated 15th and 16th May between the Governor and BS Yeddyurappa," the bench added. Appearing for the Congress-JDS joint petition, Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi challenged the Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala’s decision in allowing BJP’s CM candidate to take charge in spite of the opposition claiming more numbers (117 against 104). Singhvi had also challenged the 15 days relief given to BSY to prove their majority.

In a major win for security forces and the government of Manipur, the state police on Wednesday reportedly busted a scam that involved making fake Aadhaar cards. A 60-year-old woman resident of Tamil Nadu’s Chennai and nine nationals from Myanmar were arrested in the border town of Moreh while two vehicles were traveling towards Imphal. The nine Myanmar nationals were found to be illegal immigrants who did not have valid documents. According to news reports, the police have seized two laptops, four Aadhaar cards, one printer machine, one laminating film machine, laminating plastic sheets, photo paper, and two DVDs. Lauding the operation, Chief Minister Biren Singh congratulated the Manipur police.

Though the re-polling recorded a voter turnout of 68 percent, disturbances were reported from Rajganj after a poll officer at Itahar block who went missing on Monday in the middle of voting, was found dead near a rail track. Meanwhile, armed miscreants reportedly stole ballot boxes from several booths in Howrah and Malda. The State Election Commission (SEC) had ordered the re-polling on Tuesday after demands from the Opposition parties and cases of political violence were reported. Two days after the violence and death of 14 people gripped the panchayat polls, on Wednesday.

A day after 18 people were killed in the Varanasi flyover collapse, a staff from Banaras Hindu University Hospital was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly demanding a bribe from families who had gone to claim the bodies of the deceased. According to news reports, a sweeper asked for Rs 200 before handing over the bodies of the deceased to their family members after post-mortem. Meanwhile, the state police filed an FIR against the UP Bridge Corporation for ‘carrying out the work without taking safety measures and ignoring heavy traffic in the area.’ Four senior officials, including the Chief Project Manager, of the department were also suspended.

Five Pakistani terrorists have entered J&K through tunnel, BSF warns
The Jammu and Kashmir Border Security Force (BSF) Director General KK Sharma on Tuesday issued an alert saying five Pakistani terrorists have crossed over to the Indian side. The report of infiltration comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the state on 19 May. “There is a possibility that a group of five (terrorists) managed to sneak into this side through a tunnel on Sunday night. The anti-tunnelling exercise is going on,” Directorate General BSF, KK Sharma told news agencies. The BSF chief also assured that an ‘appropriate action’ will be taken against the neighbouring country._________________
Answer roll call with ‘Jai Hind’: MP Govt circular to students
Students in Madhya Pradesh have been instructed to reply to roll call with ‘Jai Hind’ following an order issued in this regard on Tuesday. The order would come into force with the new academic session on July 1. As students respond to roll call in classes with different words, the state government, with an aim to inculcate a sense of patriotism among kids, has decided that students should answer with ‘Jai Hind’, an order issued by Governor Anandiben Patel read. School Education Minister Vijay Shah was the first to come up with the idea to instil patriotism among students. The order does not mention about its implementation in private schools.

Government declares conditional ceasefire in J&K during Ramadan
Just a week after Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti proposed the idea of a unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir during Ramzaan, the Union Home Ministry on Wednesday gave its approval for the same, but on certain conditions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit Kashmir on May 19 and ahead of that visit, suspension of operations is being seen as a confidence gaining measure by the Central government. Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter to thank Prime Minister Modi and Rajnath Singh for their personal intervention in the matter, which, she hoped, will create a peaceful environment for a sustained dialogue.

North Korea cancels meeting with South, threatens to end US Summit
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has threatened to end the highly anticipated meeting with US President Donald Trump given the American government continues to pressurize them to give up their nuclear programs. The statement came after the leader also ended talks with its South Korean counterpart, scheduled over the US and South Korea holding joint military exercises on Wednesday. "The US should make efforts to create an atmosphere for mutual respect and confidence before dialogue, not resorting to a foolish farce that may reverse the good trend created with much effort," news agencies of South Korea quoted its Northern side._________________
