Shoes hurled on stadium by Cauvery protestors during IPL's CSK vs KKR match

Protests against Indian Premier League matches in Chennai intensified in the city amid raging Cauvery demonstrations on Tuesday during the match between Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders. A few shoes were hurled from the upper tier of the stands opposite to the main pavilion. Four people were arrested for the same. Earlier, all roads leading to the stadium were closely monitored by security to prevent anti-IPL activists from spoiling the show and the teams had to enter the MA Chidambaram stadium through the back gate. Police chased away agitators in some places while one incident of protestors burning the CSK’s yellow jerseys was also reported.

PM Modi to observe day-long fast over Parliament disruptions


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will observe a day-long fast on Thursday along with Bhartiya Janta Party president Amit Shah in protest against the disruptions by the Opposition during the Parliament’s Budget Session, as reported by News 18. Other MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party will also join the hunger strike. While Modi will lead the fast in New Delhi, Shah will be present in Karnataka, where Assembly elections will be held in May. The announcement came a day after a nationwide fast observed by Congress leaders, including party President Rahul Gandhi, to protest the alleged atrocities committed against Dalits and minorities under the Narendra Modi government.

Karnata Elections 2018: Anger among BJP leaders after declaration of first list

Disappointed ticket aspirants in the Bhartiya Janta Party have begun expressing distress against the party in Karnataka after the release of the first list of candidates on Sunday. BJP leader Jagadish C Metgud and his followers on Tuesday gathered at his house and marched till the Sangolli Rayana Circle while shouting slogans against the party president BS Yeddyurappa. Over 100 followers of Metgud set fire to party flyers. Jagadish’s followers alleged that Yeddyurappa was ensuring “his cronies got tickets, while the veterans were sidelined”. Ex-BBMP councilor and spokesperson of the party city unit N R Ramesh, an aspirant to the Chickpet seat also expressed anger over his ticket being given to businessman Uday Garudachar. His supporters held a protest in front of Ashoka's residence and also staged a rasta roko in Yediyur ward in Bengaluru. Similar protests have erupted across the state involving unhappy ticket aspirants.

CWG 2018: India remains at 3rd spot with 11 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze medals


Indian shooter Heena Sidhu, on Tuesday, won the 11th gold for the country in the women's 25-meter Pistol event on the sixth day of the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG). With this Gold India secured its 3rd spot with 11 Gold, 4 Silver, and 6 Bronze medals as of now, Athlete Muhammed Anas came agonizingly close to winning a medal at the 400m run but settled for a credible fourth place finish with a national record-breaking performance at Commonwealth Games on Tuesday. It was the first time that an Indian was competing in a final of 400m run at CWG since legendary Milkha Singh competed in 1958. Athlete Hima Das qualified for the final of the women's 400m with a personal best of 51.53.

YouTube’s biggest hits deleted then restored by hackers


YouTube's music video for Louis Fonsi’s hit song Despacito, which has had over five billion views, was hacked on Tuesday afternoon then restored, according to media reports. Several viewers reported that in place of the video's original thumbnail, a picture of masked figures aiming guns at the camera was put up. When they attempted to view the video, a message appeared which read, "Video is unavailable." However, the video was later available with the original thumbnail. Apart from Luis Fonsi, several other artists including Shakira, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Drake have also been affected, as reported by The Independent. The hackers, calling themselves Prosox and Kuroi'sh, had replaced some of the videos' titles with their own messages, including posting messages like "free Palestine" alongside their own nicknames in the comments section of the videos.

Bharat Bandh 2.0: Over a dozen injured in Bihar, UP stays unaffected


Several were injured in a violent clash in Bihar on Tuesday during the Bharat Bandh protest called by various groups against caste-based reservations in education and jobs. The clashes took place in between groups in favour of caste-based reservation and groups protesting against it. The Ministry of Home Affairs had issued an advisory asking all states and union territories to increase security after the April 2nd Bharat Bandh that had killed at least 12 people and disrupted lives. Bihar was the most affected state in Tuesday's Bharat Bandh whereas Uttar Pradesh remained unaffected. Violence was witnessed in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Schools remained shut in UP, curfew was imposed in MP, protestors stopped trains and blocked road traffic in Arrah in Bihar, Delhi, and Rajasthan. Internet services remained suspended in Nainital, Uttarakhand, many parts of western Uttar Pradesh, parts of Alwar.

HDFC hikes home loan rates for the first time in 4 years


Housing Development Finance Corp (HDFC) on Tuesday increased its home loan rates for the first time since December 2013. India’s largest mortgage financer has increased rates by 0.20% for loans above 30 lakhs. The rates have been increased due to rise in the cost of funds. The new rates are effective from April 1. A woman borrower can now get a loan at Rs 8.40%, and for others, it will be offered at 8.45%. For bigger loans, between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 75 lakh, 8.55 percent is offered for women borrowers and 8.60 percent for others. For loan above Rs 75 lakh rate will be 8.65 percent for women and 8.70 percent for others.

Unnao Gang Rape Case: Brother of accused BJP MLA arrested

Lucknow Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested the brother of a BJP MLA who has been accused of gang-raping a minor. The girl’s father died in police custody yesterday. Atul Singh Sengar, brother of Bangermau (Unnao) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, was arrested in his hometown Unnao. A week ago, the girl's father was allegedly thrashed by his men, including his brother. The girl’s father’s post-mortem has revealed that the father died due to shock and septicemia, i.e blood poisoning. It also says there was bleeding in the man's lower intestine (probably due to injury) and points to the lack of proper treatment in time. On Sunday, the girl, along with her family members, threatened to commit suicide outside CM Yogi Adityanath’s House in Lucknow, alleging that the police refused to take action against the MLA despite numerous complaints. According to her, Kuldeep Singh and his accomplices raped her on 17 June 2017.

CBI raid in former Bihar CM Rabri Devi's residence


The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi’s residence on Tuesday in connection with illegal land acquisition involving her jailed husband, Former Union Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. The investigators questioned Rabri Devi and her son Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the alleged IRCTC hotel scam during the tenure of Lalu Prasad as the Railway Minister. Yadav is accused of illegally acquiring land for railway hotels in Jharkhand between 2004 and 2005 while he was railway minister. The case pertains to allegations that Lalu Prasad in his tenure, handed over the maintenance of two hotels run by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a subsidiary of the Indian Railways, in Ranchi and Puri to Sujata Hotel, a company owned by Vinay and Vijay Kochhar, in return for a prime plot of three acres in Patna through a Benami company.

Key accused in former RJ's murder arrested by Kerala police


Kerala police on Tuesday arrested the prime accused in the murder of a 36-year-old former Radio Jockey Rajeshkumar. Ali Bhai alias Muhammed Thalif was taken into custody by the police from the Thiruvananthapuram airport with the help of Interpol after he fled to Qatar following the crime, confirmed officials. Rajesh, popularly known as Rasikan Rajesh, was hacked to death on March 27 in his studio on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram by a gang allegedly led by Ali Bhai. Their relationship soured after Rajesh’s intimacy with his wife, who later filed a divorce plea. The plea infuriated Sathar and he hatched a plan to kill Rajesh, they added. The special investigation team probing the case had arrested a 22-year-old engineer from Bengaluru on Sunday for helping the two-member team, which reportedly came from the Middle East to carry out the crime. Police have also arrested four people for helping the accused flee the country.

FBI raids house of Trump's lawyer, seize porn star’s documents


The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday raided the offices and residence of Michael Cohen, a personal lawyer, and confidant of President Donald Trump. The authorities seized documents with information related to Stephanie Clifford, better known as porn actress Stormy Daniels, who alleges she had an affair with Trump in 2006 that the White House has denied. Trump slammed the move Monday as a "disgraceful situation" and "an attack on our country. “I have this witch hunt constantly going on," he told White House reporters.Officials in New York seized "privileged communications" between Michael Cohen and his clients, his lawyer said after the raid on Monday.
