J&K Encounter: 13 terrorists gunned down, 3 jawans & 4 civilians killed





At least 12 terrorists and three soldiers were among 20 people killed in three gunfights in the Kashmir Valley on Sunday. Taking to Twitter, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) S.P. Vaid informed the encounter has been concluded. Three separate encounters took place in the valley -- one in Anantnag during the night and two on Sunday morning in Dragad and Kachdoora villages. As many as 25 others were injured in the encounters. Authorities have ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in the valley on Monday as a precautionary measure.

CBSE Paper Leak: HRD ministry suspends official for negligent supervision at centre





The Human Resource Ministry on Sunday said a Central Board of Secondary Education official has been suspended for alleged lax supervision of the Class 12 economics examination, reported media. HRD Ministry Secretary Anil Swarup said an inquiry has been initiated into the matter and identified the official as KS Rana. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar ordered his suspension, said Swarup on Twitter. The suspension follows the arrest of two teachers and the owner of a coaching centre earlier in the day for allegedly being involved in the leak of the Class 12 economics paper conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

Amul Dairy MD resigns, board refutes ‘corruption allegations’





Amul Dairy’s Managing Director K Rathnam resigned from his post on Saturday citing personal reasons. His decision to step down as the MD of the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd, popularly known as Amul Dairy, follows allegations of corruption in the organisation. However, Amul Dairy has refuted reports of any connection between his resignation and allegations of fraud as well as dismissed claims that Rathnam was found guilty of corruption. Amul chairperson Ramsinh Parmar said the allegations were “far from the truth” and “perpetuated by rumour mongers”.

Diesel hits all time high; Petrol at 4 year high





Fuel prices in India sky-rocketed on Sunday with petrol hitting a four-year high of Rs. 73.73 a litre. On the other hand, diesel rates touched an all-time high of Rs. 64.58 in Delhi on Sunday. It has renewed calls for the government to cut excise tax rates. According to the price notification on IOC website, petrol and diesel rates in the national capital have gone up by 18 paise per litre each in Delhi. In Mumbai, petrol was priced at Rs 81.59 per litre while diesel was Rs 68.77 per litre. India has the highest retail prices of petrol and diesel among South Asian nations as taxes account for half of the pump rates.

Bhagalpur Violence: BJP minister’s son Arijit Shashwat arrested for rioting





Arijit Shashwat, son of senior BJP leader and Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey and accused of Bhagalpur riots was arrested from Patna late on Saturday night. The arrest came hours after a Bhagalpur court on Saturday rejected Shashwat’s anticipatory bail plea. He was sent to a 14-day police custody. “I have given myself up to police in deference to the court order. I have been wrongly accused of evading arrest. I was not absconding as I have not committed any crime,” Arijit said after his arrest. The son of Union minister is accused of raising provocative slogans during a Ram Navami procession in Bhagalpur on March 17 which resulted in communal clashes.
