Demonetised notes are being shredded & compressed into bricks: RBI





The Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes that have been counted and checked for genuineness are shredded and further compressed into bricks – and then discarded through a tendering process, the Reserve Bank of India said, PTI reported. In its reply to a Right to Information query, the Reserve Bank stated that it is using the sophisticated Currency Verification and Processing machines to verify the numerical accuracy and genuineness of the demonetized notes.

Vladimir Puting wins re-election for another 6 years term





Russians voted on Sunday in an election that re-elected President Vladimir Putin to return for a fourth term in office. With almost all the ballots counted, he had received more than 76% of the vote, the central election commission said. Communist Party candidate Pavel Grudinin was in second with 13 percent, followed by nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky with 6 percent, results from the Central Electoral Commission showed with about half of all ballots cast counted. Around 110 million citizens were called to vote for one of the eight presidential candidates. Addressing a rally in Moscow after the early results were declared, Mr Putin said voters had "recognised the achievements of the last few years".

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday launched a witheringly scornful attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called a symbol of corruption.“The name Modi symbolises the collusion between India’s biggest businessmen and the Prime Minister. Modi gives Modi 30,000 crores of your Money and in turn, Modi gives Modi money for marketing Modi and fighting elections," the Gandhi scion said. Speaking at the 84th Congress Plenary Session at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi likened the "powerful and arrogant" BJP with Kauravas.

Aap Sardar Bhi Ho, Aur Asardar Bhi: Navjot Sidhu to Manmohan Singh





Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday publicly apologised to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his past remarks about him, terming him both "a Sardar and also Asardar (effective)". Speaking at the 84th Congress Plenary session, Sidhu said, "I want to apologise to Sardar Manmohan Singh with my head hanging down... I want to say that Sardar Manmohan Singh, what your maun (silence) has done, the noise made by BJP could not do so.”

Statue of Jawaharlal Nehru defaced in West Bengal’s Burdwan




A statue of Jawaharlal Nehru was blackened in Katwa town of West Bengal’s Burdwan district, PTI reported on Saturday. The Katwa municipality has filed a complaint of vandalism against unidentified miscreants.The Congress blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party workers of vandalizing the statue. Chairman of the Trinamool Congress-run district municipality, Rabindranath Chatterjee, also named the workers of the saffron party for the act, the media reported.
