26/11 Attacks: Bombay HC refuses probe into Karkare’s death






The Bombay High Court has refused to order a probe into the death of former state ATS chief Hemant Karkare. The apex court has now disposed of a petition alleging that his killing during the 26/11 terror attack was a conspiracy hatched by Right Wing extremists. The litigation was filed by Radhakant Yadav, a former MLA from Bihar, who had approached the high court in August 2010 claiming that Karkare was not killed by Pakistani terrorists Ajmal Kasab and Abu Ismail.

PM Modi hails women power in his 1st ‘Mann Ki Baat’ of 2018






“Women are advancing in many fields and emerging as leaders,” he said after starting off with a tribute to astronaut Kalpana Chawla. “Today, there are many sectors where our ‘Nari Shakti’ [women power] is playing a pioneering role and establishing milestones.” He further mentioned Mumbai’s Matunga Railway Station where all leading officials are women. This year, Modi said, the government gave Padma Awards to those “who may not be seen in big cities but have done transformative work for society”.

UP’s Kasganj Clashes: Section 144 imposed, Internet shutdown






The internet services were shut down till 10:00 pm on Sunday. Protestors set on fire three vehicles in two separate incidents in the villages of Nadrai and Chungi in Kasganj district late on Saturday. On Sunday, the police had arrested 49 people in connection with acts of arson allegedly committed by people returning from the cremation of a man killed in Friday’s clashes.

14 people hospitalized after ammonia leak at Kochi’s Willingdon Island






Fourteen people were admitted to hospitals, and the residents of Willingdon Island in the city of Kochi in Kerala were evacuated after ammonia leaked from a plant run by the Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited on Saturday. “The failure of the nozzle caused the leakage,” confirmed ST Sunilkumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police. Of the 14 people who experienced discomfort, nine were from the rescue teams. The hospitals later released 12 of them.

Australian Open 2018: Federer wins his 20th Grand Slam title






Tennis star Roger Federer powered home to beat Marin Cilic in five sets to win his sixth Australian Open and 20th Grand Slam title in a riveting final on Sunday. Federer, playing in his 30th Grand Slam final, joined Novak Djokovic and Australian great Roy Emerson as joint top for the most Australian Open men's titles. His overall his Grand Slam mark stands at 332-52.
