SEBI to investigate firms named in ‘Paradise papers’




Indian markets regulator Securities exchange board of India (SEBI) will look into the fund diversion and the corporate governance lapses in the firms named in the Paradise papers. The officials said that the mere presence of Indian off-shore Company in a tax-friendly jurisdiction is not violation of laws, but not disclosing them and routing funds to them will be investigated.

The ‘Paradise Papers’ investigation, carried out by International Consortium of Investigative journalists and media houses across the world, has unveiled offshore activities of some of the world’s important and wealthy people after exploring 13.4 million leaked files from offshore law firms and company registries in some secretive countries.

At least 26 killed in the ‘deadliest mass shooting’ in Texas



Terror gripped the United States of America on Monday morning when at least 26 people were killed outside a Texas church by an active shooter. The First Baptist church at a small Sutherland Springs, was left in a state of panic as accused Devin Patrick Kelley, open fired at the worshippers, injuring 20 as well. Kelley, was later found dead with bullet shots, however it was not established whether they were self-inflicted. Commenting on the tragedy, US President Donald Trump who is currently in Japan said he is monitoring the situation from there however, appeared mum on the much debated gun control issue.

With the Assembly polls of Himachal Pradesh is inching closer, the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited the state, on a three day visit and delivered fresh rhetoric on rival party, BJP. Targeting PM Modi solely in his statement, Rahul said if he is so anti against corruption, then why he doesn’t talk about the Vyapam scam. "It is written in Gita that one should work and not worry about the fruits of labour. Modi ji's interpretation is that enjoy the fruit without putting in any effort,” alleging that the PM has failed to deliver employment to the youth of the country.

Medical tragedy in UP strike again, 30 children pass away in 48 hours



Over 30 children were reported dead within a period of 48 hours on Monday, in the infamous BRD medical college, Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The hospital, which was in the headlines in August over the alleged deaths of around 70 in five days kids due to shortage of oxygen supply, failed the public again. Stressing that there was no negligence from the institution’s side this time, Head of Department of Community Medicine, Dr DK Srivastava said it is very difficult to ‘save children below the age of one month, as their mortality rate increases in the neo-natal stage.’

DMK receives PM Modi in Chennai



The regional party of Tamil Nadu, DMK received Prime Minister in Chennai, on Monday amidst talks of political merger with the BJP. DMK chief MK Stalin, however made it clearer that there was nothing political in the meet and it was more of a courtesy call by the PM to meet their father and former Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi. The meeting had apparently made the Congress nervous as the DMK is their ally in the state. The PM, also took time out to attend the celebration of a local newspaper’s jubilee, where he encouraged the journalists to explore their editorial freedom.

Nirmala Sitharaman in Arunachal Pradesh upsets China




China, clearly presented their dissent on Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharman, visiting the state of Arunachal Pradesh, citing that the move will disturb the peace in the region. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying, on Monday said “There is a dispute on the eastern section of the China-India boundary. So this visit by the Indian side to the disputed area is not conducive to the peace and tranquillity of the relevant region.” Sitharaman, who is on her maiden visit to the north eastern state visited the army posts at Anjaw district to take record of the defence preparedness. China, has earlier m claimed Arunachal to be a part of their South Tibetan territory.

17,000 crore rupees deposited and withdrawn in companies post note ban



Government data has indicated that rupees 17 crores was moved in and out of bank accounts post demonetization. According to data from 56 banks, details of such transactions belonged to 58, 000 accounts of 35,000 deregistered companies. A company which had a negative balance on November 8, the day of demonetization, gradually deposited and withdrew 2,484 crores, the ministry of corporate affairs said in a statement on Sunday. Restrictions have been imposed on their bank accounts and on the sale or transfer of their movable and immovable property.

Sensex at record high, but Nifty closes flat


Indian markets closed on a mixed note on Monday as the Sensex recorded a lifetime high, but the Nifty was little changed. BSE Sensex closed higher by 45 points to 33,731, while the Nifty 50 ended little changed at 10,451.80, down by 0.01%. Auto stocks such as Tata motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, Pharma stocks and ONCG were among the top gainers in the trade today. Bharat Petroleum, Yes Bank, Axis Bank and NTPC were among the top losers on Monday. Titan gained almost 19% in the day’s trade after the stellar earning performance. PC jewelers and TBZ also gained more than 5%

Apple to recruit from India for the First time


Global technology giant Apple Inc. will be recruiting engineers from India for the first time. The company has decided to come to Indian institute of Technology- Hyderabad. "We are elated that Apple has decided to come for our campus placements this year. We are not sure of the kind of profiles that the company will be offering," said the head of placements at the institute. Major tech companies have usually hired people from campus placements in India, but Apple will recruit people from Indian campuses for the first time. The placements are set to begin next month.

HDFC makes RTGS and NEFT transactions free


HDFC bank on Monday announced that it make Real- time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and National Electronics Funds Transfer (NEFT) transactions free from 1st November. But, on the other hand, it has raised charges for various cheque- related transactions as well as additional leaves of cheque books will get costly starting from the next month. Earlier, customers were charged Rs. 25 each for Rs. 2-5 lakh online transaction via RTGS and Rs. 50 each for such money transfers over Rs. 5 lakh. Online NEFT transactions attracted a fee of Rs. 2.5 for less than Rs. 10,000, Rs. 5 for Rs. 10,001-1 lakh and Rs. 15 for above Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakh.
