Kuldeep Yadav bags a hattrick as India beat Australia to become No 1 ODI side

India on Thursday became the World’s no. 1 ODI team as they beat Australia by 50 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After winning the toss, India managed to put up 252 on the board thanks to Kohli's innings of 92. Hardik Pandya and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar played a crucial role with the bat after India’s middle order witnessed yet another collapse. The match though belonged to the young Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav who became only the 3rd Indian bowler to take an ODI hattrick. Smith and Stoinis’s half centuries couldn’t save the Aussies though as they eventually fell 50 runs shot. With this India take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match ODI series.

India being ruined by ‘divisive forces’: Rahul Gandhi

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday addressed the Non-resident Indians (NRI) diaspora at Times Square, New York as part of his 2-week long US tour. Rahul expressed his concern over the declining harmony among the 1.3 billion Indians. “There are forces in our country that are dividing India and it ruins our reputation abroad,” the Congress Vice President said. The leader also presented his visions for employment, agriculture and economy to the gathering of 2,000 NRIs. On Wednesday, Rahul had also interacted with students of Princeton University and spoke on themes of unemployment. “There is anger building up in India right now over the failure on the jobs front, which we can sense”, Rahul said.

Kejriwal, Kamal Haasan talk politics over lunch; give rise to speculation

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday met Tamil Superstar Kamal Haasan over lunch and discussed politics leading to speculations about a possible teaming up and a new party in the state. The actor who had earlier presented his views on entering politics, was lauded by Kejriwal who said that they share like-minded ideologies against communalism and corruption. The duo also held a press briefing after lunch, where Haasan added that all those who fight corruption would be his "relatives" and so Kejriwal "too is a relative". This event has been seen as a political leaning for Haasan, who had earlier shown disinterest in joining right wing politics.

North Korea calls Donald Trump’s threats “sound of a dog’s bark”!

In a staunch reply to United States President Donald Trump, North Korea on Thursday ridiculed his threat of destruction, equalling it to that of a ‘dog’s bark’. Arriving in New York for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri-Yong Ho said “If [Trump] was thinking about surprising us with the sound of a barking dog then he is clearly dreaming... I feel sorry for his aides." On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump at UNGA had termed Kim Jong Un ‘a rocket man’ and threatened to ‘totally destroy’ the isolated regime, if it does not mend its ways.

IT cracks down raids on pro-Dhinakaran supporter Senthil Balaji

One of the eighteen disqualified members of the Dhinakaran faction in the AIADMK party, Senthil Balaji was raided by the Income Tax Department on Thursday. Balaji, who has formerly been the Transport Minister in 2015, had 10 of his properties raided. While the whereabouts of Balaji were unknown, the Central Crime Branch of Chennai Police has also recorded charges of duping 4 crores from people, with promises of jobs in the transport department against him. Balaji had earlier asked the Madras High Court for an anticipatory bail in the same case.

Mulayam sacks Ram Gopal, appoints Shivpal as Lohia Trust secretary

As the family feud in Samajwadi party continues to deepen, taking a step ahead, former party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav sacked Ram Gopal Yadav from the post of Lohia Trust secretary, just two days before the party’s state meet. Considering Ram Gopal was a confidant of son Akhilesh, Mulayam took the rift further by appointing his brother and confidant Shivpal as a replacement. The Lohia Trust is a non political body dedicated to socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia, headed by Mulayam, who had earlier fired 8 of Akhilesh’s supporters from the trust as well.

3 civilians killed in J&K’s Tral grenade attack, around 20 injured

Three civilians were killed and 12 security personnel were injured in a terrorist attack that appears to have targeted Minister Naeem Akhtar and his convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Tral on Thursday. The terrorists escaped immediately after throwing two grenades in a crowded bus stand at the heart of the city. "The area has been cordoned off for searches", said a police official. The list of injured ones included, eight paramilitary troops, four policemen, and some civilians. The attack was an attempt to "subvert our outreach programme and our programme to take governance to the people".

Calcutta HC revokes Mamata’s durga idol immersion ban on Muharram

Calcutta High Court on Thursday revoked West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s ban on the immersion of Durga Idols during Muharram. The HC has ordered that immersions will be allowed till 12am on all days, including Muharram, and asked police to designate routes for immersion and 'Tajia' procession. The court has said the state cannot pass such orders arbitrarily.However, Mamata in a defiant statement said, “"Slit my throat but no one tells me what to do". Three petitions had challenged the restrictions on the immersion of idols at the end of the five-day Durga Puja, which coincides with Muharram this year.

Rajasthan Govt to launch e-portal for sale, buy of cows

Rajasthan government is planning to set up a portal to help people sell and buy cows online. The project is encouraged by the success of e-commerce chains like OLX and Quikr.com. The portal will host photos, yield, price of cows and contact details of owners for buyers to get in touch with sellers directly. Rajasthan Cow Welfare Minister, Otaram Devarsi said,“Our efforts are to increase farmers’ income and ensure no cow is abandoned. The farmers will receive right price of cattle and role of middlemen will be curbed”. The portal is expected to go online in six months.

Aadhaar card mandatory for pub-goers in Hyderabad

The prohibition and excise department of Telangana has made it mandatory for pub-goers to show an identity card, particularly Aadhaar card, for entry. The action was taken to prevent entry of minors at pubs where they are often served alcohol. Those under 21 will not be allowed to enter pubs. Earlier, the SIT investigating the infamous synthetic drug racket had issued a warning to Hyderabad’s 14 city pubs and suspended the license of the high-profile F Club. The government has also instructed pub and bar managers to maintain a separate register with details of their clients.

Ex-Maharashtra CM Narayan Rane quits Congress


Maharashtra's Former Chief Minister Narayan Rane, a Congress member, on Thursday announced his decision to quit the party. Rane had accused the party of reneging on the promise of making him the CM and ranted against the party over "injustice" done to him and his supporters.He had also written a brief letter to the party chief, Sonia Gandhi regarding the same. In 2005, Rane was expelled by Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray after he voiced displeasure over Uddhav Thackeray gaining prominence in the party.
