Utkal Express Derailment: 4 officials suspended, 3 sent on leave; FIR registered


In a bid to send a strong message against negligence, the Railway ministry on Sunday suspended four officials and sent on leave three senior officers, including a member of the railway board in the aftermath of the Khatauli tragedy in UP's Muzaffarnagar. The chief track engineer was also transferred hours after the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had promised action against those responsible which killed 24 people on Saturday. Several media reports had said that the driver of the train was not informed about the repair work at the spot and was forced to apply the emergency brakes at the time of the accident, a theory that was backed by witnesses in the area. An FIR has been registered against unknown persons under IPC Section 304 A, on the grounds of death due to negligence, amongst other cases.

Dhawan, Kohli thrash Sri Lanka in Dambulla

Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli went all guns blazing on Sunday as India chased down Sri Lanka’s paltry total of 216 in just 28.5 overs and won the match by 9 wickets. Dambulla witnessed a stellar show from Shikhar Dhawan as he notched up his 11th career ton. PM Modi, Congress pay homage to Rajiv Gandhi on his 73rd birth anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday recalled Former PM Rajiv Gandhi on the occasion of his 73rd birth anniversary, and paid tribute to him on Twitter. “On his birth anniversary, we remember former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi & recall his contribution for the nation,” Modi said in his tweet. Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, along with Robert Vadra and daughter Miraya were the ones to visit his memorial at Veer Bhoomi to pay homage. Former President Pranab Mukherjee and Sheila Dixit were also present at the venue to pay their respects. Gandhi was the youngest Indian PM, at the age of 40, to have assumed the position.

Modi warns Cabinet against staying in luxurious hotels, availing PSU benefits

Giving a strict warning to his Cabinet Ministry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discouraged them from staying in 5-star hotels, and availing benefits from the Public Sector undertakings, related to their ministries. According to reports, Modi was upset with the ministers of his Cabinet preferring luxurious accommodations over the government ones, while on official duty. The PM’s move comes after he advertised his policy of ‘zero tolerance for corruption’. Earlier this month, BJP president Amit Shah also a pulled up party members who did not attend Rajya Sabha proceedings.

Rajinikanth fans flock in Trichy, Urge him to join politics

Southern superstar Rajnikanth’s fans flocked to the city of Trichy in Tamil Nadu on Sunday evening, demanding the actor to join politics. JEE (Advanced) for IIT to go online from 2018


Joint Entrance Exams (Advanced) for Indian Institute of Technology will go online from 2018, Joint Admission Board of IIT said on Sunday. The decision was taken up at a meeting in IIT-Madras, confirmed Bhaskar Ramamurthi, JAB Chairperson Professor. “The concept was being discussed for many years, but it was necessary to have adequate infrastructure to conduct the exam online”, said an official. Students now have to sit for JEE (Advanced) online, after the JEE (Main) which is already conducted online. In 2017, around 10.20 lakh students have appeared for the JEE (Main) exam.
