Modi and Xi praise each other at G20 amid Sikkim tussle


A day after China ruled out any talks with India owing to disparities over the Donglam area in Sikkim, President, Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi met at G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany and praised each other over a host of issues. While Modi appreciated the momentum in BRICS under the Chairmanship of Xi and extended India’s full cooperation, the Chinese President appreciated India's strong resolve against terrorism and the momentum given by it in BRICS. Both the leaders also praised the roles played by both their respective countries in the international arena. The BRICS meeting was held in run up to the forthcoming ninth BRICS Summit in September in Xiamen, China.

CBI raids Lalu Yadav over irregularities in 2006 railway tenders


The CBI on Friday raided 12 properties of former railway minister Lalu Yadav and his family over corruption charges in awarding a tender for maintenance of IRCTC hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2006. The searches were also conducted in Delhi, Gurgaon and Haryana. An FIR has been registered against Lalu, his wife Rabri Devi and son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav which also mentions two former IRCTC employees. The searches began at 5:30 am on Friday when Lalu was away in Jharkhand for his proceedings related to the fodder scam. Hours after the raid Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar who is in alliance with Lalu in the state called for an urgent meeting with top officials over the issue.


Lalu denies allegations, vows to split the BJP 


Hours after CBI conducted raid at his 12 properties, RJD cief Lalu Prasad Yadav has denied all corruption charges and said that he has done nothing wrong. “I have nothing to do with the [IRCTC hotels] tender process. Everything was done according to the system,” Lalu said adding that the current witch hunt of the BJP would not yield anything against him. “They have been trying to take me down for a while. Let them try for as long as they want!" he added. "I am not scared by Amit Shah’s (BJP) empty threats. I will break the BJP before they break me, no matter how much time it takes," Lalu told the media.

Post the CBI raid on former RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Friday, the BJP asked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to break it alliance with RJD which is a partner in the state's grand alliance. The RJD is a senior partner in the ruling coalition led by Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) and the Congress which is the third ally. RJD spokesperson Manoj Jha however defended the party and said that Friday is the darkest day in the history of democracy. He also said that they will not be cowed by such actions.  Lalu Yadav is also on trial in the Fodder scam and had to step down as a member of the Parliament and is not allowed to contest elections for six years since then.

Police arrests 3 more in J&K Dy SP Pandit lynching case


The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested 3 people in connection with the murder of Ayub Pandit, the Dy SP who was lynched to death by a mob on 22nd June bringing the total number of arrests to five. Tow people were detained hours aftre the incident. The inspector General of Police has confirmed the development and added that they have identified more people and would detain them soon with additional helped from SIT. Dy SP Pandith was lynched near the Jamia Masjid in the Nowhatta area of J&K on Thursday after he allegedly opened fire on a group of people who caught him clicking pictures near a mosque.


129 Countries to sign Nuclear ban treaty


UN ambassador Elayne Whyte Gomez on Friday confirmed the drafting of a treaty which would ban nuclear weapons from being produced and used in any form by all its members who ratify the agreement. Till now, 129 countries have signed on the treaty representing 2/3 of the total 193 UN members, making it the first multilateral nuclear disarmament treaty in twenty years. The final draft treaty to be adopted on Friday requires all countries to "never under any circumstances develop, test, produce, manufacture, otherwise acquire, possess or stockpile nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices."
