Venkaiah Naidu is BJP's Vice-Presidential nominee
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Monday announced Union minister Venkaiah Naidu as their choice for the post of vice president. In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), announced Naidu's name and said that he will contest elections against the opposition’s candidate, Gopalkrishna Gandhi. Last month, Venkaiah Naidu had said that he is not interested to become the President, or the vice-president, and will not say yes even if anyone compels him. But, with the backing of southern parties, he is likely to win 557 votes in the electoral college of 787. Venkaiah Naidu is the present minister for Information and Broadcasting and Minister of Urban Development of India. Meanwhile the voting for the next President of India was held in Parliament, the results of which will be declared on 20th July.

Barak Bridge collapsed, Manipur cut off from India
Manipur's Barak Bridge located along the National Highway-102 collapsed on Monday morning disrupting connectivity between India and the hill locked state. The bridge considered as the second lifeline of the border state broke down this morning after a 10-wheeler goods-laden truck passed through it, transport officials said. The Repair work for the bridge is being carried out even after more than 12 hours of the incident, media officials added. Around 200 goods-laden trucks coming from Jiribam town to Imphal continue to be stranded on one side of the bridge that passes the Imphal-Jiribam highway and passes through the hill district of Tamenglong.

DIG Roopa who exposed VIP treatments for Sasikala transferred
DIG DS Roopa of Bangalore Central Police (BCP) was on Monday transferred to the ‘Road safety and Traffic’ department after she exposed how AIADMK interim secretary V K Sasikala bribed jail officials to get VIP treatment inside the prison. In her reports sent to her senior Mr Satyanarayana Rao, IG, BCP, Roopa claimed that Ms Sasikala enjoys an exclusive kitchen and other facilities and had allegedly bribed jail officials to the tune of Rs 2 crore. Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah had order an inquiry into the matter, but had warned about the further actions against Roopa, for reaching out to the media and violating service rules.

MHA tells states to stop giving bouquets
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday issued instructions to all states to stop using bouquets for the Prime Minister’s visits within the country. Narendra Modi had also made this appeal on 17th June saying that “I appeal to people to give a book instead of a bouquet as a greeting. Such a move can make a big difference.” In his last ‘Mann Ki Baat” address on June 25, Narendra Modi has urged the people to stop exchanging bouquets and start gifting Khadi products. He liked the practice of gifting books brought out by PN Panicker foundation based in Kerala.

Vikram Limaye Appointed as the new NSE managing director and CEO
After five months of being elected as the National Stock Exchange's CEO, Vikram Limaye was on Monday took over as the Managing Director and CEO. Limaye has been appointed at a time when the SEBI is investigating allegations that it gave preferential access of servers to some of its clients at its center between 2010 and 2014. This has halted the NSE’s IPO of 10,000 crores. Vikram Limaye has said that he would like to solve the regulatory issues with the institution first, before proceeding for its IPO. Vikram, 50, was the CEO of IDFC ltd, and was also on the committee of administrators of the BCCI.

Indian shares closes above the 9,900 mark, Sensex at lifetime high
With the Nifty closing above 9,900 and the Sensex at more than 32,000, Indian Indices are breaking their records for the sixth straight session. The Nifty index is shortly predicted to reach the 10,000 mark and the Sensex close to the 35,000 mark by December, media reports said. This continuous hike in the points in the NSE index, specified to a certain range, has formed a bullish candle and it is now necessary for the index to hold above the 9800 range in order for the stocks to make profits. Twenty lakh shares were added in open interest by put writers at 9,900 level.
