Seven Amarnath Yatris Killed in Anantnag terror attack


Seven Amarnath Yatris were killed and four policemen were injured after terrorists attacked a bus near Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, media reports quoting CRPF sources said late on Monday. "At least seventeen pilgrims were travelling in the bus from Baltal to Mir Bazar which was being escorted by a police team when the attack occurred. Two of the pilgrims died on the spot," reports quoting a CRPF officer added. One of the three terrorists arrived on a bike and reportedly emptied two rounds of magazines on the pilgrims, another report said.

Actor Dileep arrested in Kerala Actress abduction case



Malayalam Superstar Dileep was on Monday arrested by the Kerala police in connection with the abduction and assault of a top actress in February this year, media reports quoting police sources said. Dileep who was called in for questioning in the morning was arrested by evening after police "found ïrrefutable proof" of his involvement in the "conspiracy." The police had questioned Dileep and his director friend Nadir Shah for close to 13 hours in the last week of June during which the former had denied knowing the prime accused in the case Pulsar Suni. The police, however, found photographs of the accused on the sets of one of Dileep's film. The case in question is the abduction and sexual assault of a lead actress by a gang following a personal enmity who also filmed the act and threatened the victim with dire consequences.

India, US, Japan hold joint Malabar Naval drills


The tri-nation Malabar Naval Drill consisting of India, United States (US) and Japan started on Monday in the Bay of Bengal. The 10-day-long exercise will focus on the anti-submarine warfare, with China looking to increase its presence in the Indian Ocean. While India will showcase the Maritime Patrol and Anti-Submarine Warfare Aircraft, P8-I, US will be showcasing its P-8A Poseidon aircraft. Japan meanwhile showcased its helicopter carrier, the 27,000 tonne JS Izumo, and 6,300-tonne destroyer JS Sazanami. The drill will focus on a total of around 15 warships, two submarines and several fighter jets, surveillance aircraft, and helicopters.

Swaraj hits out at Sartaz over Visa for Jadhav’s mother


Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj on Monday expressed her discomfort over the lack of courtesy shown by her Pakistani counterpart Sartaj Aziz regarding a visa application for Kulbhushan Jadhav's mother. In a series of tweets, Swaraj attacked Aziz regarding her letter for Avantika Jadhav, mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav. Jadhav, a former Navy man was arrested by Pakistan last year on charges of spying and was sentenced to death by a military court on 10th April 2017. Sushma through her tweets also assured Aziz that 25-year-old cancer patient Faiza Tanveer, who has sought permission for a medical visa would be allowed treatment in India if the request comes from Aziz's office.

NSE suffers shut down after technical glitch, touches lifetime high of 9,723 points


The trading in Cash and Future and Options segment in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) resumed after a major technical glitch halted its operations for the first half of the trading session on Monday. The NSE, which was believed to have very robust systems and data backup processes, surprised traders when they were not able to make purchases after 10:00 am. NSE confirmed the glitch and gave the members a 15-minute window to cancel their outstanding orders at 12:15 pm. The Finance Ministry has asked the SEBI for a detailed report on the issue. The Nifty meanwhile touched a lifetime high of 9,723 points.

RJD and JD (U) hold separate meet after CBI raids on Lalu


Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Nitish Kumar's JD(U) met their respective MLAs separately on Tuesday even as the crisis over multiple raids on Lalu and his family snowballed into a major headache for the ruling alliance partners. The meetings reportedly discussed the political situation in Bihar, after the CBI registered a FIR against Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife, Rabri Devi and son, Tejashwi Yadav on Friday. Post the meeting, RJD backed Tejashwi and claimed that he wouldn't step down from the post of deputy CM in spite of the allegations. BJP had sought the resignation of Tejashwi Yadav from the post of deputy CM and also asked Nitish Kumar to remove him from his cabinet.
