PM Modi meets Putin in Russia, Kudankulam nuclear plant on agenda
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Russian President Vladimir Putin and sign an agreement to build the last two units of the Kudankulam nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu, media reports said.
Modi who is on a 4-nation tour is expected to be hosted for dinner by Putin amid talks and agreement signings between the two countries with regards to science and technology, railways, cultural exchanges and other business areas, the report added.

Historian Guha quits BCCI panel citing personal reasons
Well-known historian Ramchandra Guha who was part of Supreme Court appointed panel of administrators who would monitor the functioning of Indian cricket and BCCI has stepped down from the role citing 'personal reasons', media reports said.
Guha who wants the Supreme Court to relieve him from the charges of Committee of Administrators (CoA) has submitted his resignation to Vinod Rai, the former CAG who is the chairman of the committee.
The CoA however cannot accept Guha's resignation till the matter is heard by the apex court on July 14, a report quoting sources said.

Madhya Pradesh journalist who took on bootleggers shot dead
A journalist from Madhya Pradesh working for a Hindi daily was shot dead inside his office on a busy market road on Wednesday after he tipped off the police regarding an illegal liquor shop in Pipliyamandi, media reports quoting police said.
The 42-year-old journalist Kamlesh Jain was shot by two motorcycle-borne assailants from a close range while he was alone in his office filing stories, media reports added.
Three suspects have been detained in connection with the case but none of them have been charged although traders in the region raised slogans after the news of the murder came to light, the report said.

GDP falls to 6.1% in Jan- March quarter; Note Ban prime reason, say economists
The Indian economy slowed sharply in the January-March quarter to 6.1%, down from 7% in the previous quarter, while the overall pace of growth in 2016-17 moderated to a three-year low of 7.1%, according to data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Wednesday, media reports said.
The report quoting economists said that the fall in GDP was a result of the demonetization move by the government last year that hurt sectors like construction badly losing its spot to China as the fastest growing major economy in the world which expanded 6.9% during the same period.

AAP to hold a parallel EVM hackathon on June 3rd
The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday announced that it would hold a hackathon simultaneously on June 3rd to challenge the Election Commission of India's hackathon and prove that it is an eyewash, media reports said.
AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj who had held a demonstration of EVM hacking using a prototype last month has said that if participants follow the ECI guidelines hacking an EVM prototype is also next to impossible.

5 Pakistani soldiers killed by Indian Army on LoC in retaliation
Five soldiers of the Pakistan Army were killed on Thursday in retaliatory firing along the Line of Control (LoC), media reports quoting Indian Army officials said.
Earlier, one civilian was killed and a BSF jawan was injured following cross-border firing between Indian and Pakistani soldiers.
