Madras HC stays Centre's ban on Cattle Slaughter 

Madurai bench of Madras High Court on Tuesday granted a 4-week stay on Central government's notification on countrywide cattle slaughter and sought a response from the state and the government of India on the matter, media reports said.

The court was hearing a petition seeking to halt the notification with the arguement that it would lead to loss of jobs in a large number.

The Environment Ministry had on Friday had issue a notification that stated a complete ban on sale and purchase of cattle from any animal/livestock market for purposes of slaughter or religious sacrifice.

CBI court frames charges against Advani, Joshi, Uma and others in Babri case


The CBI special court on Tuesday framed criminal conspiracy charges against senior BJP leaders L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Union Water Minister Uma Bharti in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition case, media reports said.

The court also charged them with various sections of the IPC but allow them bail with a surety of Rs 50,000

BJP leader Vinay Katiyar, VHP's Vishnu Hari Dalmia and Sadhvi Ritambara have also been asked by the court to present themselves in person, the report added.

Cyclone Mora arrives in Bangladesh, More than 3,50,000 evacuated


Cyclone Mora on Tuesday made a landfall in Bangladesh with winds ranging from 117km/h forcing the country to evacuate 3, 50,000 people around the coastline even as it created a havoc around the refugee camps set up for Rohingya Muslims, media reports said.

The Rohingyas had escaped Myanmar owing to the ethnic violence,

The gusty winds have destroyed more than 10,000 thatched huts and the damage is severe, a Rohingya muslim community leader was quoted by news agency Reuters.

South-west Monsoon winds arrive in Kerala, North east


The Southwest monsoon arrived in Kerala and North eastern states on Tueday bringing much needed relief from the sweltering heat, Indian Metreological Department officials told several media outlets.

The onset is also likely over Lakshadweep, coastal Karnataka, some parts of Tamil Nadu in the next few hours, officials of IMD added.

According to IMD, the advancement of seasonal rainfall coupled with Cyclone Mora has brought the rains to the North eastern states as well.
