PM opens India's longest bridge in Assam, to be named after Bhupen Hazarika


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated India's longest bridge that will connect Assam to Arunachal over the river Brahmaputra and will reduce travel time by almost four hours, media reports quoting various officials said. 


Modi who completed 3 years of his government at the Centre announced that the Dhola-Sadiya bridge will be named after famous musician and lyricist from the Assam Bhupen Hazarika. 

The 9.15 km bridge is slightly longer than the Bandra-Worli sea link and has the strength to carry a 60-tonne battle tank, a crucial element for the region bordering China.

Missing Sukhoi su-30 jet wreckage found in forest near India-China border 


The wreckage of the missing Air Force Sukhoi su-30 jet that had vanished after losing contact near the India-China border were recovered on Friday morning, media reports quoting officials said. 

The plane with no sign of survivors was found in a dense forest near Tezpur in Assam where it was last seen, the report added. 

Defence spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sombit Ghosh told the PTI that the weather is bad owing to which search operations are a little behind schedule.

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis escapes unhurt after helicopter crash lands in Latur

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis along with five of his staff members had a narrow escape after a chopper in which they took off from Nilanga town, near Latur, crash landed on Thursday afternoon, officials later told the media.


The state government's Sikorsky helicopter VT-CMM got entangled in the overhead wires in the area owing to which the incident occured, officials added.

Fadnavis immediately took to Twitter and assured everyone that he was safe following the incident.

Indian Woman Uzma who accused a Pakistani man of forcing her to marry him returns home 

An Indian woman Uzma who had alleged that she was forced to marry a Pakistani man at gunpoint returned to India on Thursday after the Islamabad High Court allowed her plea to return home to her parents, news agency PTI said.

The court also ordered the police to escort her to the Wagah Border after which Ms. Uzma, accompanied by Indian mission officials, crossed the Wagah Border near Amritsar in the morning.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj welcomed Uzma and termed her as India's daughter.

Uzma who travelled to Pakistan earlier this month had accused a man named Tahir Ali of forcing her to marry him.

Women gang-raped, man shot in UP's Bulandshahr highway


Four women were allegedly gang-raped and a man was shot dead by a group of armed criminals on the Jewar-Bulandshahr highway in Uttar Pradesh early on Thursday, several media reports quoting victims and officials said.

The victims had stepped out of their vehicle to check for a stroking sound on their wheels when they were attacked, robbed and dragged off the highway by the gangsters, the report added.

Saharanpur caste battle: Section 144 imposed, Clampdown on mobile internet 


Caste based tension continued on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur leading to imposition of section 144 and clampdown on social media and mobile internet a day after a man was shot during clashes between two sections, media reports said.

On Wednesday, UP CM Yogi Adityanath had suspended top officials in police force for failing to contain the situation in the region.

The Opposition had blamed the ruling BJP of failing to protect the atrocities against dalits after a man was shot dead earlier this week.

Media reports of a school bus with 40 children on-board falling into a gorge near Rajouri in Jammu & Kashmir are false, media reports quoting Jammu SP said.

Media reports had earlier claimed that a private school bus that was traveling on Poonch's Mughal road had met with an accident and many casualties were feared.

Man hacked to death in broad daylight


A man was hacked to death in broad daylight on a busy street by two men in Andhra Pradesh's Kaddapa district, media reports quoting eye witnesses said.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that personal rivalry was the reason behind the incident and that the man was dragged out of a rickshaw before being hacked by an axe that the accused carried, the report added.
