25 CRPF men killed in Maoist attack in Chattisgarh's Sukma


At least 25 CRPF men were killed in a gunbattle with Maoist rebels in Sukma district of Chattisgarh on Monday in one of the deadliest attacks on the men in uniform.


The CRPF personnel who were deployed to help in the construction of a road were ambushed and shot by the attackers, who according to one of the survivors were around 300 in number.

On March 11, 12 CRPF men were attacked and killed in the same spot.

Govt to introduce Unique IDs for Cows


In a bid to stop smuggling, the Centre told the Supreme Court on Monday that all cows, their calves, oxen and bulls in the country will be tagged with a tamper-proof Unique Identification Number.

"Each animal will be tagged with a UIN with proper records of identification details — age, breed, sex, lactation, height, body colour, horn type, tail switch and special marks," the government informed the court.

A state-level data bank may be uploaded on website to be linked with the national online database.

Army canteens suspend sale of Patanjali Amla juice, Company defends product


After Army canteens across the country suspended sales of Patanjali amla juices terming it as unfit for consumption, the company on Monday claimed that it is a medicinal product and not food like other juices in the market and hence safe for consumption.

The company added that most of its products including the amla juice don't come under the purview of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) but under the Ministry of AYUSH.

Last week, a media report had claimed that Food and Drug Administration of Haryana labelled Patanjali ghee (clarified butter) “substandard and unsafe”. The company has however refuted the claims.

Ruling PDP leader shot dead by terrorists in Kashmir


Terrorists on Monday assassinated a senior leader of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Abdul Gani Dar in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, media reports quoting police officials said.

Dar, Pulwama district president of PDP, was shot at after being waylaid when he was travelling in his car on the Pinglina-Poho road, police officials added.

He was fired at from a point-blank range, injuring him grievously after which he was shifted to a hospital in Srinagar, where he succumbed to his wounds.

Nasscom defends Indian IT over H-1B Visa row


Nasscom, the main Indian IT industry body on Monday has firmly dismissed the accusations by a top aide of US President Donald Trump that software giants like Infosys, TCS have been unfairly grabbing the bulk of H-1B visas.

“In FY 2015, only six of the top 20 H-1B recipients were Indian companies” a statement from NASSCOM, said adding that in the same year, “India only got 8.8 per cent of the total approved H-1B visas.”
