Former Congress Women's Wing chief Sacked for Terming Rahul Gandhi 'Mentally Unfit'

Former women's wing chief of the Congress Barkha Singh Shukla was expelled from the party on Friday, a day after she termed Rahul Gandhi a mentally unfit leader.



Singh had resigned from her post on Thursday citing lack of foresight in the party leadership and said that Rahul is mentally unfit to lead the party. 

Singh had also accused Delhi Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Maken of misbehaving with her in 2016 and being ignored by the party high command in spite of repeated complaints.


French Policeman dead, two injured in Paris shooting

A French policeman was shot dead and two others were wounded in central Paris on Thursday night in an attack near the Champs Elysees boulevard, media reports said.

Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the report added.


French officials said the attack that happened days before presidential elections took place a little after 9 PM.

"A vehicle stopped alongside a police car which was parked. Immediately a man got out and fired on the police vehicle, mortally wounding a police officer," officials said.

President Francois Hollande said he was convinced the "cowardly killing", in which the assailant was himself shot dead by police, was an act of terrorism.

Jaitley raises H-1B Visa issue with US commerce secretary


Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has "strongly raised" the H-1B visa issue with US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and highlighted the role of skilled IT professionals towards the development of the United States, officials privy to the discussion said on Friday.

Jaitley who is leading an Indian delegation in Washington DC for the annual Spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank stressed that Indian IT professionals should continue to contribute towards the economic development of the US which is in the best interest of both the countries.

Software giant Wipro sacks around 600 employees


Software services firm Wipro has sacked hundreds of employees following its annual "performance appraisal", media reports said late on Thursday.

According to sources, Wipro has shown the door to about 600 employees, while speculative reports suggest that the number could go as high as 2,000.

Wipro said it undertakes a "rigorous performance appraisal process" on a regular basis to align its workforce with business objectives, strategic priorities of the company, and client requirements.

Nitish, Sonia meet to strategise against BJP onslaught


Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar on Thursday met Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and is learnt to have advocated unity among opposition parties to take on the BJP-led NDA.



JD(U) also used the meeting to call for a joint opposition candidate for the election to the President's post and urged Congress President Sonia Gandhi to take the lead in the matter.
