Srinagar by-poll: 8 killed in  Violence, Only 6% Voting


Eight people were killed and several others injured after violence marred the polling in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday.


The victims fell to firing by security forces after mobs went on rampage in various parts of the constituency which recorded only 6 percent voting at the end of the day, the lowest ever turnout in 30 years.

Opposition parties blamed the government for failing to provide a conducive atmosphere for the conduct of the polls.

Govt mulling making Aadhaar or passport must for flying


The government is in the process of making Aadhaar number or passport mandatory for booking domestic flight tickets amid its plans to create a no-fly list to deal with unruly passengers.

The Government has already made Aadhar compulsory for filing income tax returns, getting a new sim and a host of other social schemes under the Centre.

Even manufacturers can't manipulate EVMs: EC


Putting to rest all speculations and allegations regarding EVMs, the Election Commission on Sunday said that they are robust and tamper- proof and even the manufacturers cannot manipulate them at the time of production.

The Election Commission was countering allegations from Opposition parties including AAP and Congress that the machines are unreliable.

45 Killed in Egypt church bombings, ISIS claims Responsibility 

At least 45 people were dead after multiple explosions rocked two churches in Egypt that was packed with worshippers celebrating Palm Sunday in Egypt's Tanta and Alexandria cities leaving dozens injured.


According to preliminary investigations, an explosive device might have been placed inside one of the churches.

Egypt has declared a 3-month emergency following the blasts.

Vice-Principal of College arrested over Kerala Student's suicide


One of the absconding accused in the case relating to the death of an engineering student from Kerala Jishnu Prannoy, was arrested from Coimbatore.

The accused N K Sakthivel, a Vice-Principal of the college where the victim studied, was absconding and arrested from a relative's farmhouse after the latter's mobile phone signals were tracked, police said.

Jishnu Pranoy, a first year student of Nehru College of Engineering in Thrissur, was found hanging in the college hostel in January, following alleged harassment by college authorities.
